Does anyone remember what pot values the 18-volt HMET required? Mustaines take 100k but Blackouts take 25k. I don't have the paperwork for mine anymore, and there's no diagram on the site.
I think you did. It's sitting in a drawer also. But I was going to put it, (LW-HMET), into my Peavey Rockmaster, which is a 1-HB'er bridge axe. I suppose I could do it into something else. Just not sure what.
They used 100k pots for live wire 1’s. The tone of the metal version is the same as the blackout metal. The difference is the live wire 2’s and the blackout’s use 9v and are in phase with other active pickups.
They even had a way to add resistors inline and mix them with passives since the values were higher than other actives.
Be prepared to have your head torn off. The metal doesn’t do clean and has more output that anything else. It has a good mid bite. I like it more than any of the other blackouts when that’s what I need. I wish they offered it in 7 string.
I doubt if I'll keep it in very long. But I've had it all this time, and I just want to hear it for myself. Then again, I occasionally use distortion, so it might be fun to keep on a back burner.
I bought a set today with a HMNHB-LW-N and a HB-LW-B. I'm assuming that HMNHB-LW-N is a Heavy Metal Neck? If you don't care for the Heavy Metal Bridge would you be interested in trading for a regular HB-LW-B?

I installed the Classic set I got in my Charvel model 3 this week in a pickguard with a humbucker at the bridge and middle position. The bridge is plenty powerful but the middle is a bit dull. This Charvel has always been a problem child and has seen dozens of different pickup combinations. It has huge frets and doesn't stay in tune worth a damn in E. There's also a nasal midrange resonance that is hard to dial out. I tuned it to C# today and that sounds the best it ever has and changes the resonance quite a bit. Tuning is also much more stable in C# so I'm going to install a set of 12's and add an Artec QTA like I have with my guitars with EMGs. The QTA really brings dull neck and middle positions to life and work great with active pickups.
