Livewire Metal & Classic set

rotting casket

New member
hello, I just picked up a Jackson USA King V (maple neck-thru alder wings, ebony fingerboard, OFR) and want to turn this axe into a God of the Flamethrower metal war machine for thrash and doom metal :headbang: :6:

I was thinking of a Livewire Metal at the bridge and a Livewire Classic at the neck (for clean tones). would this set-up sound pretty cool in this axe? I wasn't sure about the woods. too bright or just right? I've also read conflicting reviews about the LW Metal: it's either loose and muddy or tight and punchy...?

also, I've got a stock Marshall JCM800 2203 head with 6550 tubes. can I assume the LW Metal would push this head into metal territory so I can ditch the dist pedal?

thanks

Re: Livewire Metal & Classic set

try the new Dave Mustaine LiveWires. SUpposed to sort of emulate the JB/Jazz sounds but in active pups!

Re: Livewire Metal & Classic set

heh...the guitar currently has a JB and Jazz set in it! good tone, but the JB isn't mean and grindy enough. it's too "polite" sounding :)

Re: Livewire Metal & Classic set

Well personally im not very knowledgeable on active pups.
since u like the jazz in the neck, why not stick to passives and get a Duncan Distortion bridge or Dimarzio Super Distortion?

Re: Livewire Metal & Classic set

The Metal certainly is the loudest freaking thing ever. I would not say it is muddy at all, kinda fizzy though.

Re: Livewire Metal & Classic set

somebody on here one time said that they pushed a fender bassman into high gain territory with the livewire metal....

i think it was a bassman...

I did it to a Fender Twin Reverb. I don't know if I'd say "high gain territory" but it was definitely overdriven. There are no cleans with the LW metal.

Mine are in a Soloist with the same specs as that V. It will sound brutal through that Marshall.

what control setup are you using with your Jackson and Livewires? 2 Vol & 1 Tone? I normally disconnect tone pots. is the tone pot much use with the Livewires? thanks!

Re: Livewire Metal & Classic set

1 Vol and 1 Tone. The tone control is probably as useful as it is on a passive pickup.
