Loaded pickguard issues

Hey guys, some of you might have read my post in the guitar lounge, but here's some shots if the wiring in the pickguard, it is simply a 3 way switch with two humbuckers, one volume one tone, and a kill switch. I do think a black ground wire was cut out, but the rest is exactly ad it came. Any issues? uploadfromtaptalk1428256597885.jpguploadfromtaptalk1428256643909.jpguploadfromtaptalk1428256692319.jpguploadfromtaptalk1428256743038.jpguploadfromtaptalk1428256743038.jpguploadfromtaptalk1428256832452.jpg

That tone pot in the first pic isn't grounded. Needs a bus wire to connect its case to the case of the volume pot.

Also where's the bridge and jack grounds?

Re: Loaded pickguard issues

Would that solve the problem? Just wire a ground wire from the tone pot, straight into the volume pot? Sorry, my wiring skills aren't great but I can solder haha

Re: Loaded pickguard issues

It could be a solution. Though apart from "not functioning" you haven't really said what exactly is wrong with it.

Step one, make sure your circuit is what it should be and not missing any connections or grounds.
Step two, if there are still problems, then try to isolate the problem area and troubleshoot.

You haven't gotten past step one yet :\

Re: Loaded pickguard issues

I wired it to the input jack, as it sits now, and plugged it in this morning, all I got was some feedback. So part of me says it isn't grounded properly.

Re: Loaded pickguard issues

Do any of the switch positions produce sound?

Even if its not grounded the signal should still come through. Well?

Re: Loaded pickguard issues

Its almost always something simple that is over looked. I suggest looking at it closely and comparing it to other diagrams. Or you could contact the guy you got it off and say wtf man.

There's the easy solution, I told my friend who made it what's going on and he's looking it all over for me, no charge. Great guy, but I truly think my tech messed it up. It worked perfectly before he touched it

Re: Loaded pickguard issues

The pots are grounded by the foil on the back of the pickguard ,looks like a nice neat job with quality components and good insulation ,you haven't got the output jack wired backwards have you ?

Re: Loaded pickguard issues

I've wired up the wires to the input jack both ways. I bet my tech messed up one small spot and I just can't figure it out. But it'll be taken care of this week I'm sure, by me or my buddy

Re: Loaded pickguard issues

<-------------- you forgot to wire the diddily in the doodily

Re: Loaded pickguard issues

To update the story..
Pickguard is sent out back to my friend who wired it all up. As a fun little added bonus we're adding a "quick connect" system. Wire the guard up to a hot and ground wire, that honestly just click to another set wired to the input jack. Idiot proof in my case
