How about this use for a blend pot:
in position three on the five-way, the blend pot (a dual type with center detent) blends from Middle pup alone (pot at '0') to Neck & Bridge in parallel (pot at '10'). This way when the pot is at '5' all three pups are together.

3.M --> turn pot up slowly --> N+M+B --> turn pot more --> N+B
4.M+B
5.B
This gives you the magnificent 7 while still being logical (position three on 5-way = M or N+M+B or N+B)
It should work, right?
