Re: Long Island git makers

40 years on LI? I can think of one person off the top of my head that fits that almost perfectly, he started with Jimmy D'Aquisto in `73 IIRC (AFAIK the only apprentice Jimmy ever had). Among other things, he built a Rifle guitar for Kieth Richards.... Are you by any chance that person?

If so, im not only a colleague, but a fan, and would love to suck every bit of knowledge out of you that I can get without killing you. :D

If you´re not him I´d still love to pick your brain, though, as you almost certainly have things to offer that I haven´t mastered or even tried yet, seeing as you´ve been doing this twice as long in (I´m going to assume) a completely different setting. :beerchug:

BTW, feel free to PM me if you don´t want to "admit" who you are publically, "Your secrets are safe with me". ;)

Re: Long Island git makers

Sorry. It doesn't ring a bell. Not that it means anything, but I have been playing for over 40 years and only a few guys have worked on my guitars(besides me). Steve Carr (remember him, he built a lot of guitars for Kiss back in the day), Ron DeMarino who is a good friend & builder and Cris Mirabella. Cris does amazing work his guitars are amazing. I do most of my own work & on occasions will do work for a friend, but nothing more then a setup. I do not claim to be a builder and never will be one. I am a player. I can do a pretty mean setup(at least the way I like them setup) but beyond that I don't really do anything building wise. That typed I have built(or I guess a better word would be assembled) 2 Strats with some help. Both play & sound great. The one thing from a building point of view that I have never felt comfortable doing was fret installations/levels. That is way beyond what I want to do.

If Jimmy's apprentice is the guy I'm thinking of, he worked on solid bodies primarily, right? At least in the beginning (repairs, etc.)

Re: Long Island git makers

The only Apprentice Jimmy D'Aquisto ever had was Linda Manzer. Lind apprenticed with jimmy for 6 months paid for by the Canadian government. As far as I know(and I am no historian) LINDA MANZER is the only apprentice Jimmy ever had. There are people out there that claim to have apprenticed with him but I don't think that ever happened. Canada paid him that's why she apprenticed with him....

Re: Long Island git makers

It seems we're about the same age(s). Do you remember LOUD FAST RULES playing the OBI back in the 70's? lol great times if the staties had a roadblock on the RM bridge I'd still be in jail... Dave you must be "out east" as we say on lawnguylund. LOL
Peace and music.

Dave,

There was a guy back in the '70's who worked for Jimmy. When Jimmy stopped working on electrics this young guy (don't remember his name) took over that stuff. Jimmy did the original repairs on my LP Deluxe after some A-hole dropped it and broke the headstock, and also work on my friends' guitars, but eventually he gave it over to whoever this guy was. Tall skinny guy. I don't remember his name, and maybe he was an employee and not an apprentice.

There is a difference between an employee and apprentice. I think I know the guy you are talking about. He was never an apprentice but he did try to pass himself of as Jimmy's apprentice. As I said I think the only apprentice he had was Linda. I know that for a while he was sending a lot of his repair work to John Monteleone and now John sends any repairs/restoration work to Cris. For the most part it's a relatively small "club" of guys that do this amazing work
