I don't hear the Def Leppard thing with this. It sounds more like 70's American rock to me than 80's NWOBHM.

I think it's a good riff and overall a good song, but it goes on too long as there's not much variation. It would have been nice to have either a solo near the end or to have shortened it.
But as a work in progress it's got everything you need to build a great tune around!

put some grit on the "hammond" and fat it up a little would be cool.

Thanks for all the replies! Sorry it's taken me a bit to get back into this thread.

The main inspiration behind the riff was definitely Coverdale-era Purple, but there are other things thrown in there as well.

As far as gear goes, this was done very simply:
Drums are Drumkit From Hell
Bass guitar is a '71 Ric with Duncan Music Man pup in the bridge; active DI
Guitars are Agile AL-2800 using bridge Riff Raff pup
Amp is Splawn Quick Rod, clean channel
Gain boost is a Thundertomate Phil Hilborne treble booster
NOS '70s curly cords
Organ is an Oxygen 8 keyboard into a Roland JV1080

The guitars were tracked direct, actually, through a Hot Plate using the Line out.
