Look at my Ball. (pics intense)

So I agonized for over a month about the decision about whether or not to get an EBMM or not...and if so which? The Axis Super Sport was always at the top of my list, but after playing the Reflex with the special electronics I decided that was the way I needed to go. THEN I had to decide if I wanted a regular Reflex or if I wanted to locate and procure a 25th anniversary.

In the end I went 25th. Here are the pics and a quick gig report.

The guitar came in Thursday with year old strings. I played it 15 minutes, restrung it...played it a few more minutes and then went to an appointment. I got home about 10pm and practiced with it for the gig Friday night.

Friday night's gig I carried it...and it sounded fantastic. Something about the chambering paired with the basswood/maple/mahogany makes for an amazing sound. Very clear on picked notes WITH distortion.

If you've never played a Ball do yourself a favor and give one a try, the gunstock oil and wax neck is amazing.

I'm trying to pare everything back since I'm still in the honeymoon phase. More info to come.

Beautiful! I love those guitars, the neck on my Wayne is very very similar and it's a joy to play. The colour of yours is stunning, congrats!

Re: Look at my Ball. (pics intense)

Weeee. Congrats.

I'm afraid I can't deal with the narrow nuts they offer exclusively (or their Nazi forum) but I certainly admire the quality of the instruments.

What kind of pickups does it have?

Re: Look at my Ball. (pics intense)

Thanks fellas!

I didn't think I could deal with the nut either, but the neck on this and Reflex have a little different shape so I can get around on them fine.

The pickups are the custom wound Dimarzios used in the Axis. I'm extremely impressed with them so far.

As far as the forum goes, I've been a member about a month and I don't think it's so much of a nazi issue as much as it is only discussing their products. At least so far.

Hey Luke Duke, I have the same guitar in the hardtail version, an outstanding instrument. The pickups are very versatile and the neck is super. One of the very best I have ever owned and I've had a bunch over the years. Enjoy !!
And yeah, their forum is maybe not quite nazi but very, very controlled. Any mention of other guitars is a no no, and anything negative about EBMM tend to disappear.

Re: Look at my Ball. (pics intense)

Best guitar I've ever played. I really want the black Reflex with cream binding.

Re: Look at my Ball. (pics intense)

The finish on that guitar looks very nice, very "rich" and pleasing to the eye.

How is the finish on it? What keeps *me* away from that kind of finish is the thought that the finish is thick and sticky.

Re: Look at my Ball. (pics intense)

Never seen one of those with covered pickups before. It looks very classy!!

Congratulations man!

Re: Look at my Ball. (pics intense)

Well at least it's not a blue Ball :D. Oil finished necks kick all sorts of ar$e, I'm never going back to painted necks. Need to feel that inherent 'warmth' wood has.

I often hear people getting turned off by EBMM because of the neck dimensions - what are the specs?

Possibly the worst thread title of all time
I tried, I really did!

My thoughts when I first saw it too!

The neck is un-finished, just a gun-oil and gun-wax treatment. It's more fast feeling than satin...and soooo much smoother.

Yeah, it all just depends on the finish option. Some come open coils, others come with covers. Thanks man!

That's beautiful!!

Thanks, that means a lot coming from a man with such an arsenal!

The nut width is 1 5/8" at the nut. The neck is a little deeper than most of the other EBMMs I've played so that's why I really bonded with this one.

Re: Look at my Ball. (pics intense)

^^ Ok, same as my main guitar (Ibanez; depth is about 3/4"); reckon I could live with that :).

Really, if you play it enough you get used to the narrow nut- the string spacing is actually better than my PRS.

I actually had mine refretted with jumbo frets and plek'd, which for some reason has made the neck feel beefier so I don't notice the narrow nut when switching guitars

Re: Look at my Ball. (pics intense)

My JP6 has a 1-11/16"(43mm) nut width and the birdseye maple neck, like yours. I just wish mine had the maple board, too. That's beautiful!

Thanks man! Yeah, my brother-in-law has been intrigued and after playing this he's on a psuedo-hunt for a jp-6
