Re: Look what came my way...

dude....NICE! i love the look of that thing and i've played one on numerous ocassions and was gonna buy one but alas, it was gone. anyways....its a great amp. maybe you don't get jealous....but i do. ;)

Re: Look what came my way...

Aw nice, I love the Heartbreaker and that is a stunning example! I want to plug into it and play Limo Wreck or My Way at high volume.

Is that what Kim Thayil used to record Superunknown?

If so - wow. I need one of those.

Re: Look what came my way...

Wow..Howy Cwap. Gorgeous.

Now ya need a quilt/flamey red Les Paul to make a matched set :D

Never played (or seen) a Heartbreaker, what it's tonal "niche"?

Re: Look what came my way...

Yeah, Kim and Chris. Pretty much every guitar track is either a Heartbreaker or a 2-channel Dual Recto.

Surprising! I've never thought "Mesa" when I listened to that record.

Actually, I never thought of any amp in particular when I listened to it.

Interesting to know what it was, after all this time...

Same here. On all accounts.

Channel 1 is the cleanest most refined Fender you have ever heard. It's more clear than crystal, it's just a beautiful clean. Channel 2 gets naughty and rival most Santana solos. Carlos had two of these and a Mk I out on his Supernatural tour. It's can accept 6L6's EL-34's and 6V6's. It has 7 preamp tubes. V1 and 2 are for Ch 1 V3 and 4 are for Ch2. Phase Inverter, Reverb and tube buffered effects loop. The reverb is independant for each channel. It's a way cool amp!

I didn't realize that either. All those guitars have nutso tunings, too!

Anyway, that Heartbreaker you got looks too beautiful for words, Guitarzan.

That's interesting, because the big low end and tight gain on those tracks screams Mesa to me. That said, the tone is very much secondary to the songwriting and arrangements, IMO, which are superb.

I got this info from an interview I read back in the day btw.

Re: Look what came my way...

Just for grins, any fans of Prince will be happy to know he exclusively uses Heartbreaker's in his live rig and while recording to this day!

Re: Look what came my way...

I wanted a Heartbreaker so bad when they came out...by the time I had the money, they quit making them. I ended up with a Tremoverb, which was OK, I guess.

That is a beautiful amp, you have there...congrats.

Re: Look what came my way...

I would highly recommend trying to find one! They are well worth the hype they made back in the day!

Re: Look what came my way...

Nice amp

The Mesa part doesn't matter quite as much to me, as they're just not my kind of amp. You could slide a Gorilla in that cab and I'd still be drooling!! :D

I'm learning my lessons about Jealousy... It's not worth it.

Re: Look what came my way...

Love it. I'm a mesa fan through and through now. Did you pay an arm and a leg for it, or was it the right price at the right time?

My stiletto trident couldn't have been a much better deal and the sounds it can produce make me wonder why I still have other amps.

Re: Look what came my way...

Believe it or not a good friend of mine bought it new back in '98 played one gig with it and set it in his garage for nearly 10 years. He is more of a Matchless/Bogner type so he claims he never "bonded" with it. I've been hounding him for the past two years to sell it to me. Finally he gave in and I paid what I felt it was worth and we are both happy.
