Looking east...

Ok, so I'm getting pretty fed up with our western blues based scales. I'm looking for some scales with more of an eastern flavour, the kind of sounds that evoke classic Turkish, and middle eastern folk and religous song.

Can anyone help me out? I dont really know where to start.

Harmonic Minor (of course): 1 2 3b 4 5 6b 7(maj) 8

and for the hungarion Gypsy scale, just sharpen the fourth.
