Looking for 3 humbuckers...

I was hoping you guys can help me with picking some humbuckers.

I have a Gibson SG with a trio of 490's in it (one bridge, two neck pups). The guitar is all mahogany with a rosewood fretboard.

I really want to try the Alternative 8 for the bridge. So what would pair well with it?

I'm looking for a really thick tone, but not too muddy. Right now, the guitar sounds best to me with both the bridge and the middle on, as just the bridge is sort of thin sounding. I'm positive it's not the wiring, because I actually have two of these SG Special Faded 3-Pickups (both the black and white), and the case is the same for both.

I play punk, metal, rock, and I've been trying to dabble in blues. I generally tune to Eb.

I have a pair of Les Pauls (a Studio and a Voodoo) with Invader/59 combos and while I don't use the neck's too much, I've noticed I like alnico pickups better than ceramics (with the Invaders being my exception). I've also noticed that I tend to sell any guitar I get/mod with actives, so I'm not too interested in the Blackouts.

Thanks!

A2P neck, Phat Cat Middle. Should give you thick tones without muddying up.

If the aesthetics of the PC turn you off, the P Rails might be what you want.

Re: Looking for 3 humbuckers...

I had immediately thought of that when he suggested the Phat Cat, and after hearing the tones in the video... :eek2:

I'm pretty sure that's going to be the one. My only concern now is, if I were to use only a neck P-Rail in the middle, would it be considerably noisy? Would a pair of necks work out better (which I am not opposed to, at all.)

Good god, I think this might be the only time I've feared wiring something...

Re: Looking for 3 humbuckers...

Tight bold clear tone in a mahogany SG......trust me and get 2 Jazz Bridges, and pair them up with the new Alternative 8. Either the Alternative 8 or Custom 5 will sound good, but I know the Jazz Bridges will sound great in that guitar's neck/middle positions.

They're just Jazz Necks with a tiny bit more oomph, perfect for mating with a hot bridge.
No mud like an A2. No boom like a 59. Clearer than a PGn.

I'm not a fan of bridge humbuckers in the neck. Maybe the Demon, I didn't try that.

I think my attempt at this would be one Full Shred neck. You already said no ceramics, so if you want a ruder pickup this is it. And then combine with something very smooth such as either APH or Jazz.
