I currently have three C-Rex speakers in operation. I like using two amps simultaneously. I use an ABY pedal to run my guitar signal to two amps.
One is the Traynor YCV50 Blue. It is still the open-back design in the combo amp format at the moment. I do use KT77 tubes in it instead of EL34s. It has the Cannabis Rex in it, which has been in the amp since 2016. Before that, I was using that C-Rex in a Laney Cub12R over in Europe for a few years. I love that speaker.
As for the other amp, I have a 2x12 closed back loaded with C-Rex speakers hooked up to a Hughes & Kettner GrandMeister 40 Deluxe.
As a result, I have a very big-sounding tone as it is. However, having the 2x12 C-Rex cab combined with the curiosity of separating the YCV50 from the speaker to reduce spring reverb rattle at higher volumes has made me yearn for a closed-back connected to the Traynor YCV50.
I ran the YCV50 in the middle of a room for practice for almost a decade. Obviously I love the amp, so, it sounded okay to me. Then, in 2020, I got the 2x12 and realized there is something different about the C-Rex coming through that cab. I would argue a tighter, more defined bass tone, and just a warmer overall mid range (in a good way to me, classic humbucker guitar warmth that I love), among other things.
So, I moved the open-back YCV50 into a corner to kinda mock a closed-back cab, and I love the results. Now I want to try an actual closed-back cab and while I'm at it, I want to add a second closed-back 1x12 cab to give the YCV50 a full-stack experience by using two 1x12s.
I am going to have the cab builder make the bottom cab with wheels and the top cab able to securely stack on top of it and go from there.
At that point, my guitar rig will feature 4 total 12-inch C-Rex speakers run through two amps. Give me that over a single 4x12 running through a single amp any day of the week.
I find the YCV50 to just be an old-school tube amp machine. It just sounds so vintage on the clean channel but it can really dial in a nice rock and hard rock tone effortlessly. I really dig it, but when combined with the more modern H&K, suddenly I have this guitar tone that is very unique to my ears. I've never heard anything like it before.
So, I'm hopeful this idea of mine will add to my current formula in a positive way.
