Looking for a 7 string...suggestions?

The bass player I am working with has a 5-string with a low B. I am thinking of getting a 7-string to do unisions on the deeper parts. I want something with a stop tailpiece, I am not a big fan of strings through body, but that wouldn't be a show-stopper. I also do not need/want a trem on this axe. I am trying to be budget minded but do not want anything cheap.

Suggestions?

I like my Schecter C-7. I bought it used for $500, don't know what the new ones go for.

Schecters are great, but be aware that all of their 7 strings are 26.5" scale except for the discontinued Wes Hauch sig which has a trem.

Of course, the other suggestion is Ibanez, especially if you can find a used RG7621.

I found this Ibanez but it has EMGs. I wonder if I could mount a Black Winter/Jazz set on it, mayby under the EMG covers.

Duncan offers a bunch of “active mount” passive pickups that are specifically designed to fit this rout.
I have a Nazgul/Sentient set in my Ibby 7.

I’m considering selling it for a baritone actually.

Yeah, I know but I would want a Black Winter/Jazz set. I am guessing there is alway the custom shop. It is about time I had a MJ wound set of pickups.

Re: Looking for a 7 string...suggestions?

Which Ibanez is that? looks a lot like a Schecter.
I would look at the LTD M 1007 or Ibanez RG1527.

I've had a a Hellraiser C7 and Ibanez. The Ibanez felt more comfortable for me. Big neck, longer scale and 7 string on Schecter was a bit too much for me, but those are great guitars.

If you're interested in Schecter, I would take a look at the Jeff Loomis model.

That is a very cool looking guitar. My only worry is the muscle memory in my fretting would not line up with those frets. Has anyone played one of these does it feel "natural" when you are fretting?

Carvin did stop tail 7's. Search used. Their guitars might not be for everybody but they were always built rock solid.

Fanned fret guitars feel very natural to play. Your muscle memory will remain intact.

The Ibanez RGD7321 is a great option if you're on a budget. But I do recommend swapping out the bridge p'up. It's a great bang for your buck.

live wires? blackouts ?

I don't hate all actives. The active pickups in my Ovation are awesome. EMGs just sound sterile to me. I have heard many players that get a great tone out of them but they are not my cup of tea.

Re: Looking for a 7 string...suggestions?

Ibanez UV77P Green Dots seem like a standard with the Dimarzio Blaze pickups
Also like the Evertune Ken Susi LTD with fishmens
Maybe check out solar guitars too

DiMarzio Blaze is quite possibly the saddest pickup DMZ ever made

Evertune is....a bit of a travesty

LTD 7string necks kinda disappoint vs. Japanese Ibanez 7s
