Looking for a brighter Tele neck than my Antiquity

I have a set of Antiquity I in my US Telecaster. I think the bridge pickup is just perfect but the neck is too muddy.

Could you recommend a neck pickup that is a little brighter but still have the dynamic qualities of the Ant?

Maybe Lew can chime in here. He often talks about a custom shop tele neck pickup that MJ wound for him. Apparently it sounds a lot like a Strat pickup in a Tele size *with* the cover!

Sure: It's called a Tele ala Strat...at least that's how MJ refered to it when she wound it for me.

But the Ant I is an alnico 2 neck pickup...maybe the Antiquity II, which is alnico 5, would be the ticket. It is brighter than the Antiquity I version.

I have an Antiquity II in the neck of my 52 RI. Like you, I found the Antiquity a little dark for me so I replaced it with the Antiquity II. It is brighter and sounds great when combined with the bridge.

If you're looking for a bright Tele neck pickup, you can't beat the DiMarzio Twang King.

That thing rules. I have duncans in just about ALL my guitars. But I couldnt find a SD tele neck pickup that had the clarity I was looking for.

The Dimarzio Twang King is incredible. excellent string and attack definition, but not modern sounding at all.

Seriously, give it a shot. Its not stratty like at all. It sounnds like the duncan neck tele, if someone bumped the treble and presence up like 5 notches.

Try just removing the cover -- depending on what material it's made of, the cover can be a tone-killer.

good post. Twang King is a stellar tele neck pickup, and easy on the wallet too.
