Looking for a decent inexpensive distortion pedal

Re: Looking for a decent inexpensive distortion pedal

Does anyone remember when an Arion Tubulator sold for $9.95 retail? I had two. Sold both. Now I regret it. Now, they're hard to find. Great pedal.

I remember seeing one for sale for cheap! Did you sell yours here on the forum?

+1 on Joyo US Drive. Also the Mooer Hustle Drive is an OCD clone but that was 79 bucks.

Fangs Metal on sale at MF for $39 right now.

Raised them back to $59 but it still says "on sale" at the top. (those guys lol)

Men,,,,,that Boss ML2 metalcore is a very good pedal that can be had all day for under $50-used, got mine at pawn shop for $40 mint/box.
It's like an upgraded hm3 hypermetal. The trick IMO is to keep the gain and lows around noon, and the level and highs lower, like 9-10:00.
Sounds and feels very "boosted-recto" at those settings and doesn't introduce the bad hyper-sizzle or sub-bass that sometimes ruin metal-pedal tone.
It also does it's own decent clean-boost with gain on 0 and level to unity/+.

Re: Looking for a decent inexpensive distortion pedal

Laugh all you want, but I'll vouch for the Boss Metal Core on this one.
Just listen to the tone Rob Chapman gets out of it. I've set the link with the exact moment he plays it:

That's heavy, definitely a worthy Recto sounding pedal.
I had a US Dream and IMO it was a bit too warm and nice for an angry Recto tone. It lacks a bit of sizzle and "good" fizz on top.

Even tho I’m not interested in that style of music, that was a fun shoot out. I kind of agreed with their choices for the best of the pedals too.

And I definitely agreed that the Victory amp, once set for its own overdrive without any pedals, sounded better than any of those pedals sounded played through that same amp set for a cleanish tone.

That Metal Core pedal seemed to give the most bang for the buck...but it didn’t sound as impressive the second time around as it did when they first tested it earlier in the video.

Those guys do not do very good demos, or vids in general IMO.
