Looking for a Fuzz Pedal!

Re: Looking for a Fuzz Pedal!

just spent about an hour with the swollen pickle, nice pedal to say the least...very quiet with a wide range of tones and this thing has some serious bottom end, didn't get a chance to play with the internal controls..certainly more of a muff than fuzz, but i did find some settings that were pretty raspy..i am pretty happy so far with this purchase

Re: Looking for a Fuzz Pedal!

Couldn't agree more. It isn't your normal type of Big Muff fuzz. It will do fuzz but it is a more vintage-y germanium loaded distortion. I like it because between the two circuits it is very tweakable and versatile for transparent distortion to medium fuzz (it won't do high fuzz like a Big Muff will). It may not be what you are looking for but it is worth taking a look at.

Off topic but what are you running with your Muff Germ 4 because I found it wasnt thick enough but thats with my fairly bright amp and ash/maple tele with a5 pickups so alot of pedals are a bit harsh and thin with my setup (wondering if it will be nicer with my les paul copy)

I use it with a lot of gear, but the two amps it is running into are a 59 bassman RI and a fender supersonic. The supersonic has it's own distortion channel so I don't use the germ muff with it all too often. As far as the greatest tone goes- it is the germ muff with my hagstrom Viking deluxe and my 59 bassman. It sounds killer with that setup.

i finally got a chance to plug in to one of these yesterday. Yeah its great! lots of tweakaybilit, and heaps of gain. Quite a titanic sound really. I liked it a lot.
PLUS - it sounds fine with a wah (unlike my fuzz face). Totally different beast tho but yeah - lots of fun and im seriously considering buying it. Either this one or the black arts pharaoh.

Re: Looking for a Fuzz Pedal!

i had more time to try some different settings on the swollen pickle, it seems that i like everything but the volume dimed..i have also noticed that it sounds better through the clean channel of my amp as opposed to the 2nd channel, not sure why that is...

Re: Looking for a Fuzz Pedal!

The Wren and Cuff Tall Font Russian is a really great fuzz in my opinion. It has a lot of bottom end and nice even distortion, reminiscent of a Big Muff Russian, but with more bottom end, as stated before, and is still in circulation.
