Re: looking for a good diy amp kit

I don't know of any kits that have a KT88 specific option. This is mainly because there aren't many commercially available guitar amps that use them, so not many kits for them exist; if any. Just about any amp that runs 6L6's et all should be able to run a KT88 albeit at less than the Kt88's ability. The only major concern that I can think of is the output transformers primary impedance and the current draw the power transformer can handle. The only vintage models that utilize them are Marshall Majors, Orange Thunderverbs and a couple of VHT/Fryette models, but neither are in kit form. Some modern variants are out there such as the Splawn Nitro, but the majority of amps that use them are bass amps.

An amp that uses 6550's may be a better candidate for a KT88 build. 6550's are the USA version of a KT88 ( basically ) and there are several amps that use 6550's. An amp designed around 655's will be more suited for a swap to kt88's is basically what I'm saying. This pretty much means 70's era Marshall's.
