Looking for a harder sound with single coils

Fulltone

I'm looking to swap out the stock pick-ups in my guitar for something better. I'm open to anything as long as they're single coils.

Ideally, I'd like to get a rockin' tone like this: http://www.zshare.net/audio/32193135867486/

PS: I'm looking into investing into a distortion/OD pedal but I don't know jack about pedals. How would I go about lookin' for me?

Thanks a bunch! :)

The lead sounds,to my ears, like a Dimarzio FRED on a FR-equipped geetar. DMZ should make one of those in single coil size! Give Steve B an email and request one.

A LiveWire Hot set. Brutal but still clean and snappy single-coil tone.

A big thank you to Lewguitar for making a thread about them and turning me on to them as a result.

Fender Lace Sensor Reds!!! Hot as hell, brawny and strong distorted and clean, clear and chimey clean (but still with attitude).

Awesome, thanks for the replies. Does anyone have any clips of the forementioned pups in action though?

Thanks!

Re: Looking for a harder sound with single coils

I have mostly bucker bridge guitars and a 1994 LS 93 Washburn USA custom Strat with 3 singles. I went through several pickups in the bridge before I settled on a SSL-3 Hot For Strat. I had a SSL-5 , Lil 59, and a Lil Screaming Demon in the bridge before I settled on the SSL-3. I was looking for true single coil tones but with enough kick to not have the bottom fall out of my output when going from a guitar with a bucker in the bridge from song to song. The fattest and most agressive overall tone was the Lil Scraming Demon but that was just to much for what I was trying to do with this guitar. I have my Lil Screaming Demon for sale in white if you are interested .
