Looking for a New Amp

Re: Looking for a New Amp

Having owned both a Triple Recto and a 5150II, I can say the Mesa will be far more versatile as far as filling in for your bassman should you need it to. I would say the Peavey edges the Mesa in the djent and chugga departments, but its a matter of taste there.

Before I got either of those I got my metal tones with a EXH Metal Muff through my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, and I got plenty of compliments from other guitarists on how great my tone was. That dist-pedal-through-the-front option is worth looking into.

Re: Looking for a New Amp

Hmm, I totally forgot about the Metal Muff. They're so cheap that I should just pick one up regardless, I'm sure it would be better than my Digitech RP-crap.

New purchase plan:

1) Metal Muff

2) 7 String of some type

3) Dual Rectifier

4) EBMM JP7 to replace whatever 7 string was "good enough" up to that point.

Awesome.

Buy four pedals.

Just filling in the blanks. :beerchug:

Re: Looking for a New Amp

Oh I thought that went without saying. I've actually got a Strymon Timeline coming next week (tra de, not purchase :p )

Re: Looking for a New Amp

you can send them into Fryette to add an fx loop.

Instead of the Metal Muff, use a Maxon OD-808 or TS9 instead.

Re: Looking for a New Amp

Having played Tubescreamers into a 68 Bassman, that's not going to get him where he wants to go. It's a good sound, no doubt, but not what he's after, I think.

I was recommending it for when he plays through a Dual Rectifier, not necessarily with the 68 Bassman.

Re: Looking for a New Amp

Find a used Bogner Red XTC pedal for $200. Run it into your amp and it'll be like switching between a real Bassman and a high gain amp. If you're not sure, take your amp to a store that has those pedals and see for yourself if it's a good option.

Yeah Its deff cheaper to get a metal chug chug WOMP WOMP WOOMMPPP pedal... a good one anyways

Re: Looking for a New Amp

Wait guys didnt the OP say he wanted DJENT...? Afaik, that pretty much involves taking everything anybody ever recommended - and doing the exact opposite! Cuz, rly, djent is all about gunning for the very tone everyone else finds hella obnoxious and avoids like the plague, at every turn...

Honestly though, there is a lotta truth buried somewhere in that sarcasm of mine. Try gunning for the brightest setup you cam imagine and cranking the gain on that. Should get you on the ballpark at least. ALSO, there is a slight chance that your current rig is just a gazzillion-band EQ pedal away from what you need...
