The JB is full power (which I like) and the Hybrid is medium output. That's how I'd choose between those. Also hybrids have a different vibe, they have more mids from the mismatched coils. (JB has a lot of mids too though.)

so the JB is high output and the 59 is medium output, i was thinking that both was medium output
can you describe som song o how the 59 hybrid sounds like?

thanks for your reply Clint 55

I wouldn't go so far as saying the jb is hot perse. The 59Custom is slightly less hot but still powerful.

It depends on the time you're looking for. The jb is a great lead pickup and imho a ****ty rhythm. Not really an all-rounder.the fluid feel of a jB in a strat is amazing. It sings. But don't expect great cleans, good split tones, warmth of something like tightness in the low end. And totally forget about dialing in your tone via mag swaps.

The 59custom isn't as fluid but much more forgiving as to what guitar it is in. The low end isn't as flabby. The upper mid spike of the jb isn't there. It's more organic, more open. Great harmonics.

The hybrid has my vote.

I love the JB and it has the perfect output for me. Nice and full. I think the cleans are pretty good too! A lot of guys like the hybrid, I haven't tried it. Orpheo explained it very well.

I had the JB in a Les Paul Classic and it is exactly as described--a really good lead pickup.

The Hybrid does more things well, I think. It still has dynamics, and it isn't stuck in the 80s hard rock mode all of the time. If you play a variety of styles and use dynamics in your playing, I'd go with the Hybrid over the JB.

yeah lm looking for a wide range of dynamics not only the 80s hard rock sound

Hi,
I've had both, the JB and the Hybrid.
59/Hybrid gets my vote by a wide margin as it can clean up very well when needed, and has all the power you need.

i will go for the 59 custom hybrid with the jazz pickup yeah
only one question the 3 pots has to be 500k? or just the tone pots has to be 500k and the volume pot 250K?
i believe the three post must be 500k but a rather ask you and be sure

Re: looking for a new pickups for a start jazz neck and JB o jazz neck with 59 hybrid

3 500k pots works well. If you want it brighter or darker you can adjust from there.

jazzyguy-
I like the sound of 500K pots, Duncan makes some great ones, I prefer the "Smooth Turn" one to the "Fast Turn" type
they make for Malmsteen. I like what *seems* to be more of the pickup straight through to the amp sound of 500K pots
but I cannot back it up with science-y type reasons.
I just like it better, tone pots also.

I agree with starting with 3 500k pots. Do you use your pots a lot for swells? I use the YJM Speed pots but some people 'set and forget' their pots and see no real benefit there.
