Hello everyone! Long time reader but first post! I am looking for a PAF style pickup recommendation for the neck and bridge for a 2013 Les Paul Custom Lite.

- Mahogany Body with a Maple top

- Rosewood Fingerboard

- 300k volume pots and a 500k master tone pot. (might change the 300 to 500)

- Has a master coil tap for the neck and bridge.

- Has a thing body almost like a SG but a little thicker than that.

The pickup would need to be a 4 conductor so I can split it with a good split tone.

Tones I'm looking for..

Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, early Van Halen, The Doors, Mountain, The Clash, Blue Oyster Cult, early Ozzy, and early Sabbath. For modern tones The Dead Weather, Social Distortion, Foo Fighters, Audio Slave, and Sound Garden. Also really like Slashes tone in World on Fire a lot.

I would like to have good clean but warm tones as well via coil tap or naturally in the neck.

I would be plugging into a Marshall JCM 900 with maybe a tube screamer, fuzzface, and wah pedal.

Please let me know what you guys recommend.

\m/ Thanks \m/

A 4-conductor set of Seth Lovers.

Re: Looking for a pickup reccomendation 2013 Les Paul Custom lite

That does sound pretty good in the bridge. Anyone have an idea of how these sound when tapped?

Re: Looking for a pickup reccomendation 2013 Les Paul Custom lite

It would be a bit weak split, mid 3 to low 4 k per coil. That would be true of most PAF style 'buckers though.

Re: Looking for a pickup reccomendation 2013 Les Paul Custom lite

Would it sound pretty clean when split almost like a strat?

Re: Looking for a pickup reccomendation 2013 Les Paul Custom lite

It'll sound brighter and more open than a humbucker, but will have less output than a vintage strat pickup.

Re: Looking for a pickup reccomendation 2013 Les Paul Custom lite

Any clips of WLH, A2Pro, or the Seth being played for heavier stuff you guys have seen? Just trying to weigh the versatility and tones for different genres between the three.

Sure. I always back up my jibberjabber on the forum with clips (although I don't know just how heavy you're looking to get into).

First two I'm noodling early Van Halen stuff (brown sound):

Somebody Get Me A Doctor

House Of Pain

This one I'm just wanking:

It will sound clean or cleaner if you are using a tube amp but from loss of output, so not like a Strat? I don't mean it will sound bad, tapped humbuckers can get close to a Strat sound but I've never herd one that I couldn't tell was a tapped H.B.? The Arcane Brownbucker while tapped is probably the closest thing to a Strat S.C. sound I've ever got from a humbucker but the Brownbucker is basically designed around the pickup in E.V.H's Frankenstrat? It has miss matched coils & was originally used in the 1978 Super Strat, witch I believe was the first Stratocaster that ever came stock with a humbucker? Anyway, Arcane pickups are flipping amazing!!! You should look into them before making up your mind, 100% hand wound & very reasonably priced!!! I personally don't like my humbuckers too hot, someplace between 10k & 7.5k is just about perfect!

Re: Looking for a pickup reccomendation 2013 Les Paul Custom lite

I'd go with a '59/custom hybrid in the bridge and a sentient neck pickup for the neck. best versatile set I can think off.

Re: Looking for a pickup reccomendation 2013 Les Paul Custom lite

'59/Custom Hybrid in the bridge (can go from classic rock to heavier stuff) and Screamin' Demon in the neck (great for lead and can easily nail Slash tone). Both split well.

Re: Looking for a pickup reccomendation 2013 Les Paul Custom lite

Slash used A2Ps for the early GnR days. Listen to Welcome to the Jungle and/or Sweet Child 'o Mine and you will have a good idea what the A2P is about.

I have a 2014 les paul classic jazz in the neck sream'n demon bridge sounds great through my marshall . Duncan 78 would work and whole lotta humbucker also .

WLH set, 500K pots for everything, Gibson 50's style wiring, paper in oil tone cap.

OR...

Pearly Gates neck and WLH Bridge. 500K pots for everything, Gibson 50's style wiring, paper in oil tone cap.

50's wiring for 2 vol, 1 tone: http://forum.gibson.com/index.php?/topic/64404-wiring-advice/

I'd opt for a wiring scheme that uses a Master Volume, and then a tone for each pickup. IME, that gives you the most and widest range of tones.
