Looking for a pickup similar to Perpetual Burn with higher output

Okay, so I'm regretting selling the Perpetual Burn that came in my Ibanez RG1420. I threw a Crunchlab in it (as I originally intended on doing), but it sounds like crap IMO. The CL sounded great in my RG870, but not in this for whatever reason. Just sounds a bit loose and muddy to me.

Anyways, I loved how the Perpetual Burn sounded. It worked for literally anything I threw at it, very balanced. The only thing I felt wanting more of was a bit more output. What pickup would you guys recommend for the RG1420 (Floyd, basswood, rosewood fretboard)? I've heard the Perpetual Burn is similar to a JB, just with lower output. I mainly play metal and use an Axe Fx II as my rig. I tend to prefer the Mesa Recto and Mark amps in it, as well as the 6160 and 5153's.

Try putting an A8 or Ceramic into the PB. It should definitely get you more output.

if you don't fear the active a Seymour Duncan Blackouts Modular Preamp, if you don't want or like the colouring the blackouts preamp adds, and you don't want to add a booster pedal then the Seymour Duncan Fire Storm or the Emg After Burner will do right

If you use an Axe Fx how can you need a hot pickup ?
Just turn up the gain.

I use a Low output PAF and get all my tone from my preamp.
I've found that lower output gives me way more tone.

A8's and ceramics will change the sound of the pickup in a pretty big fashion... sure its more output but it will also change the high end and add a ton of low mids. Just boost the signal with the axe fx

I had thought about using the Modular Preamp, but from the way the wiring looks I wouldn't be able to do splits on the coils.

Have you tried turning the Crunch Lab around?

That's certainly true, but that's part of the increased output.

Not necessarily... Even with equal gauss changing mags will change the tone due to their properties. If you want louder with the same tone mags are a bad way to go about it. A boost is a much better idea.

Not yet. When I did that in my 7 string I noticed the bass response increase, which is the opposite of what I'm trying to accomplish. I will try it anyways and report back.

A clean boost pedal will do exactly what you want with the stock PB.
