Looking for a replacement pickups for my Michael Kelly

Hello,

I have a Patriot Custom with stock Rockfields.
I'll try to do best to describe what it is that bothers me about them and hopefully you could recommend me an SD pups that will fit in.

Okay, so here's how it goes:

First, I like the guitar. It feels good on my hands, the neck, frets, strings, action the whole thing, and it simply looks gorgeous, it's the trans amber finished one.

The sound I get from the pickups is something between stuck and going nowhere. I'll try to be more precise; It sounds too clean, no grit in the sound, no dirt, no balls, no bullets to shoot with, it just feels static, and nothing's really happening there, it's like a picture with nothing extreme or different in it, no marks.

The bridge pickup reminds me of steve's special that I really don't like, it's way too clean, not mid scooped though, and it sounds sterile.

The neck pickup has no chime, and it's dry sounding, and it really has no light spot in it... it lacks sparkle.

A note about both pickups: their output it way too low for me. I actually grabbed a Charvel guitar with SSH with jackson pups like the ones on model 6 and when I connected it to my amp which is a Peavey Classic 50 212, it had twice the output, I need more output from my guitar.

I do play modern high gain sounds and this guitar does seem to fit into this genre, but the pickups simply don't deliver it. The character I've described earlier is somthing I can see and hear in Les Pauls and Strats...

Can you help me? I really need your help on this one.

Thank You!

For a high output neck HB, the Custom & Custom 5 work well for many of us. DiMarzio has a number of good high output's too. On the neck, you may want some brightness (and a lower ohms rating), which means a PU that's not too hot, or it'll get muddy & muffled.

If you're into metal, you'll probably want a ceramic magnet PU, which are bright, powerful, & tight. If you're into classic rock, one of the alnicos will be best, as they have some sparkle & color.

Unless you're into bright, harsh PU's, stay away from the JB. Works for some, but a disappointment for others.

Whatever you wind up with, you can always dial in your tone with magnets, pots, and caps.
