SD Everything Axe pickups for Telecaster?

Hi

New to the forum and of course, with a question. I have a Fender Am Pro II strat setup with the SD Everything Axe loaded pickguard. I really love the setup, especially the Neck SL59-1N and Bridge SJBJ-1B pickups.

I would love to set up an Am Pro II Tele with the same pups but cannot find equivalents for Telecaster.
Anyone with advice on tele pups with similar characteristics?

Thanks a lot
Bjorn

Welcome to the forum!

On the standard production line, there isn't much out there to replicate the Little 59 and JB Jr in a Tele format. The closest I can think of is a Red Devil for Tele. It is usually paired with the Vintage Stack Tele Neck. All of the Tele bridge pickups that have higher output are generally on the warm and fat side, not the cutting upper mids of the JB Jr. I would go ahead and contact the Custom Shop for quotes on if they can replicate the pickups in Tele form.

I wonder if the tele Quarter Pounder bridge would get you into the ballpark. Much more output than a regular tele pickup, lots of mid bite, and some compression. Maybe a bit less bright, but a tele bridge position tends to be more bright than I usually want anyway. Not hum cancelling though, if that's a thing you're worried about.

The Quarter Pound has the correct output, but sounds nothing like a JB Jr to me...a lot more lower mids, thicker and without the bite of the JB Jr.

Thanks for answers and advise. Hum cancelling is important to me.

Check the route under the pickguard/bridge... you might be able to put humbuckers in it.

My Tele came with Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups and the Eric Clapton mid boost circuit. So hum cancelling, a huge output boost, and lots of extra mids on tap. Might be worth looking into. You could match this with any kind of stacks.

Firebird pickups sound great in the neck position of a tele if you have room. Works for pretty much every style of music and pairs nicely with a full sized humbucker or tele bridge.

thats very true. i run a firebird pup in the neck of my black tele, sounds fantastic.

The Am Pro II Tele is routed for a humbucker in the neck position. I currently have one set up with DiMarzio Super Distortion, full size neck and standard sized rail for bridge. I wanted to try if splitting a 14K humbucker arriving at 7K would give a truer single-coil sound. I’m not there yet but on the way. I perform with a Big Band having both modern and traditional stuff on the repertoire and hate to bring two (or more) guitars to the gig.

I must read up on firebird pups !

Look at dimarzio. They have quite a few rails pickups that are available in both strat and tele forms.

Open that neck slot to strat or humbucker size, and you open up plenty more possibilities

I say if you want to have an actual humbucker in the neck, don't settle for a split more powerful one. Go for an actual 59, Antiquity, or Seth Lover.
