I’m looking for a seven string bridge humbucker that’s not overly hot. Something on the moderate side. I’ve tried the Blaze and it’s okay but I feel it’s a bit wiry in the midrange that I don’t care much for. The Crunchlab 7 doesn’t lighten up and it’s kind of thud like in the low end. I haven’t tried the titan 7 but I have tried the fusion edge 7 which is supposed to be similar. It’s good for getting djenty but I couldn’t pull back with it and get any decent paf like tones even with the volume backed off. I’ve used a Nazgûl 7 which was just metal all the time and not really useful for more delicate low gain stuff. The Pegasus 7 was too round and sterile like it didn’t have any real personality of its own. I appreciate the omega 7 more.
I prefer a bridge pickup that responds fast on the low end with more of a treble or high mid response. I’ve only really found what I like in six string pickups though. The pearly gates and gravity storm bridge pickups are the ones I get along with the most. Where the treble is prominent enough but with a kind of width in a way? I don’t really get on with the JB too well as it “feels” too hot and like it’s always up all the way. I like the full shred although it does get fatiguing and dry in tone fast. I also really like the McCarty humbuckers. Just something about a slight snappy but still musical high end that works for me. I like that I can achieve The response without super hot rodded output.
I like the idea of the Paf 7 by dimarzio. But many people are disappointed by it. I’ve read that the ionizer 7 might be what I’m looking for in that it has brightness overall but is similar to how the gravity storm does it, along with more articulation and a more solid low end. Some reports say that it is similar to a blaze pro which I wouldn’t mind really. I can never find any non metal reviews of seven string pickups. It’s always trying to be brutal. I don’t mind it usually since I’m something of a prog metal player but I like versatility a lot more and I appreciate clean and low gain tones on the math rock side too. So what should I be looking for?
