Looking for a Strat wiring schematic...

Someone on another board described the wiring scheme a tech did for him on his Strat, and I really like the versatility it would lend but I can't figure out how to pull it off. Anyone have any ideas, or maybe seen it before and know where I can find a schematic? Here's the description he gave me:


"The first knob, closest to the neck, is a volume knob for all of the pups. The middle knob is the universal tone control (in my case, it's a TBX, but a normal pot would be fine). The rearmost knob is a weird volume blend knob that works like this:

When I've selected the neck or neck-middle position, that last knob controls the volume on the bridge pickup. So, I can get a tele sound (bridge and neck pups selected), with all variations of the amount of bridge sound I want dialed in. I can also select all three this way, with the same variation on the bridge pickups volume. When I've selected the middle-bridge or bridge pickup, now the last knob controls the volume of the neck pickup in the same way."

One last question, do I need a blender pot or will a regular pot do the trick? I assume a blender pot will be more efficient as it has a center detent (unless... does the pot only control a pickup's volume when it's NOT turned on via the 5-way?)

IIRC the "blender pot" shown in Lindy's drawing is essentially a "no load" pot that only turns the neck (or bridge) pickup volume up when that pickup is NOT selected by the switch.

At zero, it's better to have a "no load" pot so that the extra pickup is completely out of the circuit. There is no center detente in this application.

Hopefully someone else will add more useful info here, or move this thread to the pickup lounge.

You need a real No Load pot or the Fralin Blender Pot.

If you use a regular pot and you have your switch set for the neck pickup, some of the bridge pickup will bleed into the neck pickup signal. And vice versa: when your switch is set for the bridge pickup some of the neck pickup will always bleed into it.

Using a No Load pot or the Fralin Blender pot eliminates that bleed through.

When the blender pot is on 10, it disconnects itself from the the circuit.

When the blender pot is on zero, it combines the neck and bridge pickups.

Or blends them to any degree when the pot is set between zero and 9.
