Looking for alternatives to Original Floyd Rose...

Don't get me wrong I like the Original Floyd Rose that Is in my Charvel. I have no problems with its overall layout etc. But the one thing I CANT STAND is how every time I get the trem bar screwed in with the amount of tension and responsiveness that I like, after using it once or twice it gets loose and progressively more so until there is just way to much "give" on the bar and It is less precise and for my uses, sometimes almost unusable unless I screw it in again. Are there any quality, direct, drop in replacements on the market that lets you keep the bar tension tight and consistent and not have to constantly have to keep tightening the screw on the bar constantly?

Re: Looking for alternatives to Original Floyd Rose...

Try wrapping some plumbers tape around both the bar and the collar threads. Start with the collar and see if that holds your tension, if not try adding a wrap or two the bar.

Gotoh Floyd, Suhr uses it....

That looks perfect! If I wind up replacing it, thats the way im going. But i tried your suggestion first Ayrton and so far so good, amazing what a little plummers tape can do for guitarists. I can't believe I didn't think of that myself. I kind of like the idea of it to: "Just tape it up and keep playing!"

Good suggestions guys, Thanks.

Yep, the tape works well.

The best thing is, once it wears out, you just redo it.

Re: Looking for alternatives to Original Floyd Rose...

I tried the plumbers tape on my cheap schaller-copy floyd but got tired really quick by how fast it'd wear out.

Now I have a Gotoh Floyd and wouldn't ever change it for a hundred OFRs...
