Looking for an overdrive for a Big muff

Looking for something to boast up my big muff and get a little more gain. I'm kinda new to pedals, I was always a plug it in and go. But now I'm in my 40s and wanting to do a little more experimenting. Just seeing if anyone knows a good overdrive to use with the big muff. Also what do y'all think about using a tubescreamer? I'll be playing classic rock and some blues with it. I play SGs and mostly my solid state Orange cr60. Thanks for any help.

Looking for an overdrive for a Big muff

I used to use a tubescreamer to push my BM, very happy with it. I needed something that would cut some bass and added mids, not more gain. So an EQ maybe also wild have worked. Then there’s the gilmour method to have something after the BM that never worked for me.

Re: Looking for an overdrive for a Big muff

for Tube Screamer needs, I like the MXR distortion lineup -They are just high quality affordable Tube Screamers with way more versatility and better EQ

Like the Custom Badass Modified OD -100 hz cut, better EQ, and bump switch for multiple EQ voicings.

or super crunchy high gain Custom Badass 78'

Tell me more about the modified od. Is it literally a TS with a high pass?

Pretty much, except the bump switch gives switchable EQ voicings and the EQ is a little smoother than a traditional TS. I love this pedal.

I have been using a Way Huge Saucy Box as a boost. I have been thru plenty of ODs, but the Saucy remains. Some people say it isnt "transparent", I dont care tho. Just adds harmonic content and sounds killer IMHO

Re: Looking for an overdrive for a Big muff

I once used a (now rare) 80's KORG pedal to boost a Big Muff. It is called Tone Booster TNB1.
It worked OK. I don't know how it compares to the Colorsound Power Boost and its clones: the Throbak Overdrive Boost (U.S.) and the Orange Electronics Bananaboost (Czech Rep.)

Anybody has ever used the KORG Tone Booster (MIJ - four knobs) ?

Re: Looking for an overdrive for a Big muff

BluesBreaker style pedals works well for this. I had great results with both the Vick Audio Mount Pleasant and the Snouse Black Box going into a Vick Audio '73 Ram's head.

The Soul Food OD from Electro-Harmonix is good and yeah a Tube Screamer has not been bad for me!
