Looking for good guitar under $1000

Okay I've been trying to find the best guitars for under $1000 that don't require any modding (pup changes, tuners, bridges, etc...) and wanted to know what you think is the best bet. So far I've looked at ESP ltd's and schecters. what else is out there?

Re: Looking for good guitar under $1000

yea many schecters have JB/Jazz combo in em... high quality guitars... built very well. =)

Re: Looking for good guitar under $1000

What type of music do you play and what kind of guitar are you looking for?

The LG and LG Hmb are both good guitars. The LG comes with Duncan Designed P-90's, and the LG Hmb has a Duncan Designed humbucker of some sorts. Both have a real nice Les Paul kind of tone from the short scale and materials. They also have a new Freeway series which are another Super Strat. Same idea, good pickups and good materials, except these have a Strat scale and sound like a Strat. The one I played was S/S/H configured and played very nice.

My next guitar is going to be a Godin bass, but now that I've had some good hands on time with them I think I'd like to get an LG as well.

Schecter C1. It's a dream to play, has so many nice features, nice finish, very well put together, good wood, etc. I haven't found a single flaw with my C1+. IMO, they're the best deal going in new guitars.

Check out the Yamaha A620. It's a Les Paul style axe that already comes with a JB at the bridge.

Re: Looking for good guitar under $1000

Used Hamer Studio...they typically sell for $550-$750 on Ebay. They are some of the nicest guitars you can buy. Hamer still builds every guitar 100% by hand, and the attention to quality control is immaculate. They use a neck joint design that is 40% larger than Gibson's, and unlike Gibson, the neck joint is hand fitted, rather than sloppily glued in. This provides much better sustain and resonance than most set neck guitars. They come with Duncan pickups stock (either a JB/'59 set or two '59's, depending on the year,) and even the pots are custom tapered to give you an extra boost when the controls are turned from 9 to 10. I really don't think there's a guitar maker anywhere in the world who builds better quality guitars than Hamer.

Nearly a dozen people posted and only y2stevo bothered to ask what this guy is looking for.

Original poster - I can't even start to make a recommendation until I know what style you are looking for or what music you play. This would be like me asking you what MY favorite color should be.

Re: Looking for good guitar under $1000

Not a lot of people seem to mention these guitars (probably because they're not that well known), but I think Brian Moore makes some fantastic stuff. I noticed that as long as you stay out of the Custom Shop range, you can get some amazing instruments for the buck. Great finishes, piezo options available on some, and most importantly STOCK SEYMOUR DUNCANS! Can't ask for much more than that! ;)

Bear in mind that if you use something like eBay, you'll find them even cheaper.

Gibsons, Fenders, PRS's, Hamers, Deans, Tokais, Ibanez - shall we go on and on until such time as you tell us what exactly you are looking for it does seem a pointless thread.

Re: Looking for good guitar under $1000

jeez give me a break im not on my computer all the time. Anyway i mostly play hard rock/metal (metallica, lamb of god, etc..) with my band but at home i also get into blues (SRV, Cream, zeppelin, BB King) and was looking for the most versatile of guitars as well as cheap since im on a pretty tight budget. I also want a trem for the metal part so a guitar with a floyd would be great.

All of the above are awesome but you may also want to check out Ibanez if you like the floyd rose thing - very nice guitars for way under $1000

Re: Looking for good guitar under $1000

I was about to recommend a Les Paul until I saw the part about a Floyd.

If you want a hard rock metal guitar that has great tone for under a grand, have to go with either a foreign-made Jackson or an Ibanez. A lot of people think the only quality Jacksons are US-made, but they have some great Japanese models that anyone who wants an FR equipped guitar for a great price would be crazy to overlook. Check out the Pro Series, the MG Series, and the X Series. I doubt I'll buy a Jackson because I'm really not into the whole Floyd Rose thing, but I recommend them to anyone who is.

Also, the Ibanez S Series is great. They're extremely playable guitars that feature solid mahogany bodies and trem systems that are extremely popular among Ibanez fans.

Good luck! :)

Re: Looking for good guitar under $1000

I'm suprised no one has mentioned this:

Fender now has a Highway 1 Showmaster model with a Floyd and 2 humbuckers! I haven't played it yet, but I have played the Highway 1 Strat, and think it's great! With a street price of only $600, you can get one, and have plenty left over for other necessities, like a killer OD pedal (Fulltone :D), solo boost (Fulltone :D :D), or distortion pedal (er ... Fulltone! :D :D :D)
