If it's the girl of your dreams why should you look for someone else? [emoji12]

I haven't tried any after market pickups besides Duncans. The SD Custom Shop does awesome work. If you have a pickup concept that you are after then the Custom Shop may be it--they wound an (A5 12.0 dc, modified PG) pickup a few months ago

good luck

Re: Looking for new favorite pickups.

My favorite Duncans are their PAF types: Seth, A2P, & WLH.

Swapping magnets opens up new tones & EQ's.

Re: Looking for new favorite pickups.

Tell me more about the SD Custom Shop ...

Sure thing.

The Custom Shop is accessible through the Seymour Duncan website. They do good work and, particularly in my case, were great to work with.

The CS has a custom pickup order that basically gives you the all kinds of options to choose from--what type of magnet, potted, unpotted, what tone you're looking for or wanting to emulate, even engraving). If it took me about 3 weeks to get the pickup I ordered and they even called me personally to talk about my order and suggest a few ideas.

Re: Looking for new favorite pickups.

Wait, what? I love PG+, my favorite PAF from Duncan. Yet sometimes I wish it has more oomph. This is awesome!

Yeah. It's overwound, and with all that extra wire, it's not a true PG honestly. They started with the stock Pearly and I asked them to give me the "Gimme all Your Lovin' " lead tone, so they wound it to 12.0 and added an A5.

I named it Eliminator.

Re: Looking for new favorite pickups.

Tell me about the "Antiquities" ...

Ants have a PAF wind with aged (degaussed) A2 magnets, which some players don't care for (A2's are a low output magnet to begin with, and degaussing reduces that further). Seth's are more popular here, also with a PAF wind, but with fully charged A2's. They're one of the great PAF's.

Is that the "Seth Lovers" ?

Whats the dif between SL & 59's ?

Re: Looking for new favorite pickups.

Well prolly just stick with the Custom & 59' combo, thanks for those that shared.:fing2:

Re: Looking for new favorite pickups.

Seths have a lil more PAF grit to them than the 59s.

I agree, if you really like that combo but want something different, change the magnets. A8 bridge, A3 or 4 neck.

Re: Looking for new favorite pickups.

I love the 59 in the neck but i need a bit more MoJo in the bridge.

its "more wire" but not by much since im sure its #43 probably similar to a s-deco a5 pup in some ways which is cool

i love the antiquity humbuckers in some guitars with their aged a2 magnets. there is a chewy texture to the mids and soft singing high end. in some guitars they are too dark. i love seths too and find them to be brighter in the same guitar as the antiquitys. sometimes i like it, sometimes i dont.

the biggest thing is the 59's are potted and the seths are not and the different magnets. 59's have a5 and seths have a2.

Re: Looking for new favorite pickups.

If you want more mojo in the bridge, try an A8. It's more organic than ceramic.

Re: Looking for new favorite pickups.

I have the Bare Knuckle Steve Stevens (Rebel Yell) set in a Gibson Firebird Studio and they're great. I have a JB in a very old SG Junior and that's great too. Can you tell us more about your guitar, musical tastes etc. ?

Right, Seth Lover. The guy at Gibson who invented humbuckers in the mid 1950's. He later worked with Seymour Duncan in creating these PU's. Hard to beat that endorsement.

Seth's are warmer and fuller, with a lot of texture, and an open airy quality from being unpotted (and they're feedback resistant). '59's are clearer and sharper, with less mids, and a lot of treble and bass. In some guitars, '59N's can be fairly bassy. Likewise in some guitars '59B's can be pretty bright & thin.
