looking for recording software....whats good?

Re: looking for recording software....whats good?

Cubase/Nuendo, Logic, and ProTools are the main contenders, and all have strong/weak points. Because LE is such a crippled piece of software (that's the extremely truncated version of that story), I can't recommend any PT setup except for HD.

What OS are you using/are most comfortable with? That'll narrow it down, as Logic is OS X only.

Your best bet is to try whatever you can out for a project or two and see which one you 'gel' with the most.

Re: looking for recording software....whats good?

The OpenSource Audacity works well enough for me.

Re: looking for recording software....whats good?

Pro Tools is the industry standard but there are many others out there that will do the trick for home recording. I use Sonar 7 and love it. It's really easy to work with.

Re: looking for recording software....whats good?

I still run to reaper when I need to do something easy and quick.

Re: looking for recording software....whats good?

Audacity is fine for me & it's honest & open source.

Do you need 8 inputs all at the same time?

I understand Vista was a little dicey when it first came out for a DAW. Maybe it's better now? You won't be able to run Logic so look into the others mentioned in this thread that are PC based.

Take a look here: http://www.rainrecording.com/vista/
