Looking for some Phase..

Right. As the title says.. I'm looking for a good phase pedal..

I didn't really like the Phase 90 I tried in a store (the phase part was good.. it was how much tone it sucked when I turned it off that I didnt like). Or if the phase 90 happens to be the best ever.. mods?

Re: Looking for some Phase..

I rarely use Phaser effects.... I have a few.... a DOD, an older Boss, and some old thing called Amtech... the Amtech is extreme sounding..... holy is it a strong phaser.. but it is noisey and sounds awful when the effect is off...

The Boss is cool... lots of controll, quiet and well built... a steal for the $40Canadian it cost me on the used market.

The DOD is good as well....

I'm sure there is many higher quality effects then what i have but as i said i don't use Phaser too much... I prefer a strong Flanger over a Phaser... I still want a Phase 90 oneday just to have one.... But the Boss does what i need in the phase FX's.

Re: Looking for some Phase..

Heya,
I recently snagged an MXR EVH Phase 90 off ebay and love it! I'm not noticing any negative tonal effects when the unit is off, and I love the voicing of the phasing of this unit. Then again, I've always been an old Van Halen fan so I suppose my idea of Phasing has been shaped by the music he's played.

This unit has the "Script" switch which alternates between the sound of the classinc script logo Phase 90 and the Block logo Phase 90. Both sound good and have their own applications. The "Script" setting is a little more subtle, the "Block" setting is more in your face.

The only control is the speed knob but that works great for me. For me it's the right Phaser. Your mileage may vary.

Thats all im looking for. The more things to diddle with the more annoyed I get with a piece of gear. I prefer as straight to the point as possible.

Ill Check out the EVH next time I go to the store, and if that suffers from the same problem, Ill do the buildy one.

Though, devastone.. does it come with a case to put the parts in? Or do I need to make/supply my own?

Re: Looking for some Phase..

I use a Boss PH-2 and think it sounds great for Reggae etc, but I too am on the lookout.

Re: Looking for some Phase..

The Boss PH-2 and 3 are cool too, more knobs, and the Step phase mode is killer (not sure if that is on the 2). The BYOC one comes with everything and is a copy of the old Script Phase 90 with true bypass.

Re: Looking for some Phase..

I think that BYOC pdal would be a blast to build. I'm planning on getting some of these kits and building them as a winter hobby.

Then maybe an amp project after that.
