Re: Looking for Stratocaster advice...

Rosepickups.com has US-made Strat sets on sale shipped for $65 , in case you're curious about what something more vintage correct sounds like :) I'm not affiliated, but I couldn't resist picking up a set. Glad you enjoy the guitar as-is

How did the rose pickups sound?
Vintage?
Please elaborate

Re: Looking for Stratocaster advice...

I have a set of the Buff Beauties; they are high output singles advertised as retaining brightness and clarity. In that respect, they are phenomenal. Iirc mine are wound 14k bridge to 10k neck? Although the standard spec. is lower. They retain a lot of brightness vs. other higher output singles, for example SSL3s, Quarter Pounders etc. are a lot darker, as are the APS1 set they replaced. They're high output yet in a way that adds to their overall punch rather than causes any roughness/fizz.

Rose makes vintage and medium sets in addition to these; I have a Mariposa set on order; we'll see how they do.

Guitardoc I don't know what you're so threatened about. All I did was bring up the 1 legitimate instance I've noticed so far where spending less can get you more. An affinity with an unfinished neck vs everything else Squier and Fender higher in price. I'm not sure what could be going on in your head where you'd attempt to use something I said which is true to try to attack me. And on top of that, make generalizations about my intelligence. I don't know if you've learned this so far in your career, but if an individual can intuitively understand concepts which are true, that would reflect positively about his intelligence, not negatively.

Here's an article where Van Halen shares my stance on the subject last paragraph:

"The more porous the wood, the more tone you're going to get," Van Halen says. "My guitars aren't sealed, so they breathe."

http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/a15615/how-eddie-van-halen-hacks-a-guitar/

Maybe Van Halen is globally nonsensical because his understanding of true concepts differs with your opinion.

Correct version of the straw man you proposed:
"I ate an apple and an orange today, but I'm not sure which was which even after being alive for 70 years. So I must conduct thorough research and test at least 1000 times to be sure which one is the apple and which one is the orange."

Really nice guitar. Beautiful. If your tuners have little screws in the ends of the buttons, you can loosen them to make them less "stiff".

Before you even think about "upgrading" anything on that guitar, play it a lot for a couple months. Get used to what it does and how it feels. You may find that you don't really want to change anything about it. At the very least, you will have a better understanding of exactly WHAT you want to change.

Good luck, and congrats on a very nice instrument acquisition.

Thanks for the advice, that should help even out the tension on the tuners. So far really digging this strat - the sunburst is really growing on me. As much as I thought the single coil noise would bother me its pretty minimal on this one; especially compared to my P-Rails on the Schecter... I should probably re-wire the Schecter pickups.

Alright, let's be nice to each other. And get back on topic. It looks like the OP found his guitar.

Heck's yeah I did. As for the banter between other members; free entertainment! Thanks though to all the constructive feedback - holding out on CL for a decent deal paid off I think this thing is in mint condition.

Threatened!??

By YOU?! Ha, ha, ha, chuckle, chuckle. You've gotta be kidding, right?

Besides, I wasn't referring to any specific post of yours. But to all of the oh so many fallacious opinions you have tried to promote as facts.

Don't even bother to reply. I'm done. Your posts are a waste of my time. (I can't believe that I even have agreed with some of your posts on this site).

A wise man once said, "Don't argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience".
Regarding the "apples and oranges"...get your "facts" straight, I'm not the one who said ANYTHING at all about research and testing.

Man, you are really off the wall. Maybe it's time to consider getting off the forum.

(To borrow from Shark Tank...), "And for that reason, I'm out."

Re: Looking for Stratocaster advice...

So let me get this straight: I should get off the forum because I brought up how different necks sound differently? Ok guy.
