Looking for suggestions

Re: Looking for suggestions

I love old shredsticks and have a soft spot for alot of the older Japanese guitars.. Id never heard of Barrington, so cool to learn about those.

Carvins are awesome! And the DC200/400 series and others from the 80s and current are killer. If I had the money, Id get the JB200C
Jason Becker tribute model. neck through.

Barringtons are pretty sweet, they were made I believe by esp for Peter Laplaca from Kramer. A small company he started in 87 I think, in Barrington IL, right down the road from me actually! The company only lasted a few years, but made some awesome shredders and jazz boxes. I’d post some pics of mine, but not sure how exactly. Used to use photobucket back in the day on other forums, but I know things have changed now with photobucket

Re: Looking for suggestions

While not 24 frets, the Brian Moore MC1 might be a contender. It is certainly shreddy, with a neck through made of composite. I have a C55 bolt-on...a wonderful guitar. And yes, these puppies are expensive!

Re: Looking for suggestions

I was thinking old Carvins, too. They had a number of models that were neck thru, and some even with point headstocks. Some had Floyds, and some had Kahlers. You might have to look at mid 80s catalogs to get some of the model numbers.

Carvin even had a bass with a tremolo on it at one point in the nineties

So freaking cool

Carvin and Kiesel are the same folks
Jeff took over and changed the name and some of the marketing

Re: Looking for suggestions

If you wouldn't mind having a bolt on neck, I highly recommend one of the early Ibanez RG570s (HSH) from the early 90s (MIJ). The Edge tremolos are awesome, but the pickups were mediocre. When I upgraded the p'ups, combined with its amazing playability, it was euphoric. @Obsessive Compulsive mentioned the RGT which is Neck-thru, but I never knew those existed, so I can't vouch for it. But I know that I can vouch for a 1990 RG570. I love mine, even though it's beat to hell and back with multiple chunky chips gouged out, and that's coming from a Les Paul fanatic. It was my first guitar, and it's never going to leave my collection.

Re: Looking for suggestions

I have an 1989 black Yamaha RGX Custom guitar with an arched top in my signature. It's a pretty amazing guitar with a neck-thru the body, ebony fret board with crystal inlays. It also has a Floyd Rose style vibrato unit with a thumb-wheel on it to adjust the backwards travel of the bridge. I paid over $2,000 brand new at the time not including the case. If you ever see any of these online for sale I'd highly recommend getting one. They might be pretty rare by now...not sure.

Re: Looking for suggestions

I’ve actually found another model I’m interested in, a peavey destiny. Funny, my very first electric guitar was a peavey raptor 1, which was a great beginner guitar. I’m actually selling that blue Barrington now to cover the cost.

Wow now that’s what I’m talking about. That thing looks pretty killer, I’ll have to keep an eye out for one of those. Thank you!

Looks like INF pickups

Love that color blue

Re: Looking for suggestions

This might be an unwelcome limb to go out on here, but even though they aren't quite as stylistically or even geographically fitting as everything else that's been mentioned, I highly recommend Schecter.

You can find a C-1 Hellraiser with a real Floyd, passive or active pickups, 24 frets, awesome playability, the maple carved/arched top on mahogany body, and they're neck-through as well.

Yes, they're made in Korea, are not from the era you specified, and might not have the super thin necks on some of your shred sticks, but if you can try one out, do it. If you like the neck, I really think a C-1 would meet all your needs.

Mine (fixed bridge) has been my main guitar for more than 10 years now and I have put it through a lot of shredding, heavy music and low tunings, cleaner and lighter stuff, and it is still rock-solid.

Re: Looking for suggestions

Look into Caparison guitars.

Made in the same factory that produced the Charvel Model Series (1986-1989) and early Jackson Pro Series guitars (1990-1995). The Caparison line was launched when the Jackson contract expired.

The Jewel Blue color is killer for sure! The pickups in the picture are the stock Ibanez p'ups (V2 bridge, S1 middle, V1 neck). Now I got SDs in there, which IMO sound much better:

Bridge: Alternative 8
Middle: Classic Stack Plus
Neck: Screamin' Demon

Re: Looking for suggestions

I’ve seen Caparisons here and there, always thought the strat shape was a little wonky. I do like them though.
