Looking for the best Tube Screamer I can buy without spending too much!

Re: Looking for the best Tube Screamer I can buy without spending too much!

^ it's a very loose TS and kinda fuzzy in the bottom. It isn't for fast palm mutting, but it sounds awesome on bass.

Re: Looking for the best Tube Screamer I can buy without spending too much!

Why sure it is.....the tone of the amp is intact...while boosting some upper mids. :)

The TS isn't a transparent OD, in any single sense!.
It rolls off low and high frequencies and pushes mids.
It affects the attack, adding some compression and, therefore taming the peaks, what results in a less dynamics range.
But, more or less that's what happens when you push hard an old school amp and, that's whay the TS helps you to achieve at lower loudness levels.

Re: Looking for the best Tube Screamer I can buy without spending too much!

Just got the Green Rhino and I love it. It appears to be built as well as my Sonic Edge J&J OD.
Very organic, rich, smooth, creamy! I m happy with it for sure.

Nothing wrong that you like pedal X or Y. You should be happy after finding a pedal that fits your bill but, your elections clearly states that you really don't like TS, at the end.

Just curious:
* which channel are you using the Rhino with?
* what's your amp?

Re: Looking for the best Tube Screamer I can buy without spending too much!

I really am not a fan of OD pedals any more. I spend too much on good amps to rely on a pedal for anything. I only use a pedal OD/Tube Screamer for when I run my amp very low gain and just need a volume, gain and mids boost for a solo. I picked up a new Maxon OD-808 and love it! I think I like it for soloing over my Sonic Edge J&J and Xotic BB MB. I am done.

Thanks!

J&J OD I don't know it.

Xotic BB is based in a Marshall BluesBreaker combo and has nothing to be with the tube screamer sound!.

Maxon OD-808 IS THE TUBE SCREAMER. PERIOD. Was Maxon who designed the TS-808 and their later TS-9 and beyond. They worked for Ibanez. So, Maxon OD-808 is the purest of Tube Screamers.

Way Huge Green Rhino doesn't sounds like a Tube Screamer, it has some fuzz voice behind and, sounds very artificial to my ears.

Timmy or Tim AREN'T tube screamers, they probably are one of the best TRANSPARENT overdrives.

Sparkle Drive is a tube screamer with better tonal control.

Mad Professor Little Green Wonder is a tube screamer, with better tonal control and better dynamics control.

And, don't forget one of the more aclaimed ts-alike pedals: Fulltone FullDrive 2.

Are you a politician? You voted against OD's before you were for them?

Re: Looking for the best Tube Screamer I can buy without spending too much!

I loved my Bad Monkey, another vote from here. Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive has been my all time favourite TS.

Re: Looking for the best Tube Screamer I can buy without spending too much!

Still love my Analogman TS9. BUT....I also really like my Catalinbread SFT. Great OD tones, awesome fat clean boost, and lots of control with the baxandall EQ. Different pedals for different things.

Re: Looking for the best Tube Screamer I can buy without spending too much!

I have one in my DAW Digitech GNX4 , it uses the exact IC Chip as the original and it also has in it 9 other really nice sounding stomps .

They don't make these any mo but - - -

They can be had rather cheaply on a certain online auction as well as the other sources for used stuff .
This one is a real sleeper that got by many , most who own one won't let them go if they know how to really get it to shine .

The best thing is stomp - amp - speaker cabinet modeling are only a few of the many things this sucker can pull off with ease . They are formidable with the FX engine and stand alone digital recorder / looper .

Good luck -

Ahhhhh...the TS 808HW. They are like $350 though!

Best TS type pedal I have used to date other than the Tumbleweed is the Xotic AC! Transparent and sounds amazing.

I think the RI is like $170, but I would probably send it to Keeley for a silver mod!
