Looking for transparent boost/light distortion...

I'm looking for a pedal that can serve a dual function as a transparent boost and light distortion (or ovedriven sound). I've just started soloing and would like something to fatten up my lead lines, because I've been using a light chorus too much and need to add some other flavor to my solos. Also, the pedal needs to be able to get a light distortion/overdrive sounds.

Ideally, I'd like to use it for situations like in Fuel's "Sunburn" where there is a lightly distorted chorus, heavy bridge, and the two-part solo starts with a lighter distortion, then kicks into all out rawk type licks. Does that make sense? Probably not, unless you've heard the song, so it's really hard to articulate.

Basically, I'd like to be able to use the pedal (simultaneously) as a boost/light distortion in the same song.

Any ideas?

Oh yeah, and I'm looking for something more boutique (like the stuff on pedalgeek.com) but really don't know where to begin. Something pretty simple, idiot proof, but good sounding.

Thanks.

Re: Looking for transparent boost/light distortion...

The Boss DS-1 does that for me.

I just got a Duncan Pickup Booster yesterday. Haven't plugged it in yet though!

Re: Looking for transparent boost/light distortion...

For some reason the DS-1 didn't sound too great with my amp. I fiddled with the thing for weeks, but everything coming out of it/the amp sounded just "blah". That was the first thing I considered, but then reconsidered because of my bad experiences with the pedal...thanks Lew!

I checked the Fulltone Fulldrive 2 though. Now, if I'm understanding this correctly, it's an overdrive + boost pedal all in one. (hence, the two switches?) I can engage the OD (ON/OFF) and then turn on the boost when I need it? This is great! I think it's what I'm looking for, although I would like to see some other options first...thanks TO!

You know, I saw this band, Two Tons of Steel at this bar a little while ago and I think the guitarist was using a Fulldrive. He had some killer tone...made me want to be in a blues/country/roots band...

Re: Looking for transparent boost/light distortion...

I've always used a TS-9 or a TC Electronics line driver for that... The original Marshall Bluesbreaker pedal is good too...

I'm very picky about the transparency of my gear, even tho I play balls to the wall, and LOUD stuff ....
The Fulltone is wonderfully transparent, will add as much gain as you want, and as a clean boost works great, as well. :)

You can hear a clip of it in action here:http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/twilightodysseymusic.htm

WOW

That sounds great. (when does the album come out?) I'm a little taken aback by that face-melting playing...but yeah, I think the fulltone is what I'm looking for. Thanks again!

Turn your volume down and you got clean, cranck that guitar and you got drive...awesome pedals.

Sounds like you are describing my Boss DS-1! :)

Is that Lovepedal Eternity the pedal you were working on or designing and mentioned to us a few months back?

Nix that is an American pedal, one of my friends has a COT50 and the Eternity.

For once I get the hype for these pedals...lol and I dislike hype alot:D
No I work for Carl Martin, mine is real highgainer, but still rooted in how old amps sounds when they get loud and boosted.
Right now I am working on a lowergain one, going for more classic sounds...I hope that one will make it too:)

I mean, geez, I'm not that into metal anymore, but that was really great. The singer has a real classic sound, which is what I like, sort of like the "older" metal vocalists. Less growling, more singing. And the guitar playing, geez, I mean, I don't even know where to start!

But yeah, I'm way into Garage rock, but Twilight Odyssey, I would sneak into my CD collection and put it on repeat.

Hehe nah...but I sometimes wish;)
That is Dann Huff from the old Giant days...hehe they played power rock, but with very good taste, it is quite funny that he is so big in C & W now as both player and producer:)
He is one of my other reason for picking up guitar and sticking to it.
I always become happy when I hear him play, lots of soul and a vibe that just screams passion and happiness.
I met him in Copenhagen back in 92, my buddy was in the warm up band, so I met them backstage, funny and down to earth guys, very relaxed types.
