Looking for Tube amp.

Hi everyone, ive decided that my MG100DFX(something like that) just isnt that great, and its too impractical for what i do, and how i want to transport my amp. Im looking for an all tube amp, with no effects, just the main controls and distortion and clean, so not to suck out good tone. I will be playing a Fender Strat, most likely soon to have antiquities. I want it to be loud enough, but not ridiculous, i play Blues/Rock. Im thinking along the lines of a Fender Amp, maybe getting it off Ebay, in the 500-1000$ price range. Any recommendations?

Thanks-
Alex

Re: Looking for Tube amp.

I'm playing through a Fender FM series 100 watt 2 12" speakers
has clean, dist, and more dist... I like the sound very much and It is the best solid state amp I have ever owned.... But like I said, it's solid state, so maybe you don't want one like it, but it's fairly inexpensive and sounds great.
The amp I currently have on my wish list is a Fender Blues Jr. It's only 15 watts but all tube, it also may not be what you're looking for.
So I offered my input, but I'm sorry it may not be that helpful :smack: , I'll let the real tube amp guys chime in
Rock On :smoker:

Re: Looking for Tube amp.

Thanks for the input, i appreciate any. Those amps arent what im looking for tho, im thinking along the lines of...All Tube vintage, Hot Rod, Twin Tweed Amp, Vibroverb??? These amps seem expensive to buy new so im hoping there will be better prices on Ebay, im just waiting for some more input.

Thanks-
Alex

Hotrod Deluxe are nice, what kind of rock? I have heard some nice classic rock tones come out of this amp stock! I have also heard good things about blues JR. I have heard that they are really loud, I have heard of people gigging with them.

Re: Looking for Tube amp.

I like to play like Blues/Rock so like SRV, Jimi Hendrix, with a little Classic Rock. I dont NEED any more than 40 or 50 watts, so a big amp isnt something i really want. I just want an amp thats all tube and has some really good cleans and blues. I could get a distortion pedal for better distortion so thats not really important... i just want a nice amp with good tone.

Re: Looking for Tube amp.

hot rod deluxe with new tubes & speaker & most likely a distortion pedal

or get an old blackface bassman & an avatar cab. Bassman is about as simple as it gets, not exactly a bedroom amp though, since they get louder till about 6 and then the volume control just controls the ammount of distortion

Re: Looking for Tube amp.

So a Hot Rod Deluxe with nice tubes and a nice speaker should be pretty sweet right? 40w is all i need. What is a good 12'' speaker to put in? Celestion Vintage 30? and what are good tubes for a "Texas Blues" sorta sound?

Re: Looking for Tube amp.

Thanks, that was helpful, would a JJ 6L6GC or a JJ 6V6S be better, or are there better options?

Re: Looking for Tube amp.

tubes should be the least of your worries and wont make a huge difference in sound if ure gunna just upgrade the style it has, not change the type of tupe completely (example: el34 to 6l6) Just focus on the speaker for now and maybe a good distortion pedal. IMO the boss ds-1 is a great pedal especially for the price. I picked mine up for $30 oin musiciansfriend (sale) not sure how much they run for now tho. Unless u already have a good distortion pedal, then ure set

Re: Looking for Tube amp.

I agree - for the money, a used Blues Deluxe or Hot Rod Deluxe should suit you well, or for a little more, maybe a '59 Bassman RI.

among the speakers that would work: Celestion Vintage 30, Jensen RI C12N, Weber BlueDog, Alltone 12, a Mojo Celestion clone

I've had good results with JJ tubes from Eurotubes. part of the key is getting your bias set for your playing style. since that amp is probably fixed bias, you should talk to Bob at Eurotubes when you're ready.

for a pedal, I'd recommend one of the various tubescreamers - one of my favorites is the Maxon OD808.

Re: Looking for Tube amp.

Get a Bassman like I did! :) That is, if you're going to use a pedal for distortion/overdrive. Ooooh, a Bassman with Boss Blues Driver should be right up your alley.

For onboard cleans and distortion, how about a Peavey Classic?
