I am giving in and going for the Classic 30. For all I do it really is a good amp, and it covers a nice range. Plus it won't break the bank to pick one up.
I've got a Laney 1x12 cab that I am thinking of re-tolexing in "tweed" to match.

So now I need to pick up some pedals. I've got a wah, Morley Bad Horsie II, not crazy about it but I Like it at the same tim.

2 crucial effects for me are Chorus and Delay. Never been big on a lot of different FX, but I may try and build me a pretty versatile board over time.

For now let's go with a chorus, delay and an overdrive/distorion of some sort and whatever else you guys would reccomend.
Nothing too expensive though. Let's set the budget at about $300 for the first round of pedals.

I've got a Bass chorus that works well that i never use as i don't really play Nirvana anymore, except Pennyroyal Tea. PM me if you're interested and we can talk about a price.

For delay, I'd say a Boss DD or Digitech Digidelay.

can't go wrong with an overdrive ... digitech bad monkey is your biggest bang for your buck.

I bought one of these used for $60..........It's all the chorus I need!

I have a rack delay, but for a pedal I'd probably buy one of these.

No board is complete without a Phase 90!

For delay, I'm a big fan of the Echo Park, DL-4 and DD-20. For chorus, I like the Small Clone, but I really like the clips I've heard of the Analogman Chorus. I'm not an OD guy, so all I can do is echo the Bad Monkey comment, a lot of people like them.

I agree with the phaser, no board is complete without a Phase 90 or Small Stone (or upgraded equivalent)

The Rocktron Short Timer is a good echo for low $$$. Very no-frills, but it sounds good and you can't beat the price.

Its hard to recommend an OD pedal without really knowing what kind of stuff you will be doing with it. I'm a Blues/bluesrock kind of player. I use a Boss CE2, or a Boss Ch1. Both are very good chorus pedals. I also use a Boss DD3, and I have 2 OD pedals. I use each with different amps. I have a Spina modded TS9, and a Monroe Drive that Xsissive made for me. The Monroe drive is based on the Tubescreamer 808 with some serious mods. Both are great OD pedals. If I were you just starting with these, I would start with a stock TS9 RI. They run about 100$ new and if you can find a used one they can be had for about 50$. The Chorus pedal is about the same and the delay will probably cost the most,

I like the Bad Monkey better than the TS9. Easier on the wallet as well. That said, I'm using a Twin Tube Classic.:smack:

I use DD6 Delay.

I don't use chorus very often. Usually just for acoustic. For that purpose I have a DOD FX65. Personally, I like it better than the Boss chorus, despite its rave reviews.

I am thinking I will go for the Bad Monkey. It gets good reviews here, and as mentioned is easy on the wallet.
LesStrat - How do you like that SD Twin Tube Classic? That's a 2 channel OD right?

I was looking at the Rocktron Short Timer, and I like what I see, but I would also like something that allows me to select the delay on the 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 and also has a tap tempo. Of course the Delay will no doubt be the most expensive pedal.

Not too sure what I am thinking for Chorus. I had a Boss CE-5 at one point, and I really liked it. The more I think about it though... I may not go for Chorus. I've been playing with Tremelo a lot lately, and that's a fun effect.

all you need is: metal muff, route 66, chorus, delay, wah. other than that, you can get some really great tone

Not all Crates are bad. Have you tried the Palominos? Really good amps for the money. Sorry for the hijack.

Now for the pedal question, I don't have a pedalboard but I'm going to be assembling one over time. For the delay pedal, I'm going to also throw in the Ibanez DE7. Great sounding little pedal, for less than 100 dollars. It doesn't do much other than echo or delay, but it does that pretty well. The Bad Monkey is a good sounding overdrive, it's Tubescreamer-ish to my ears, but it's a little more useful than a normal one due to the bass and treble controls instead of just one tone knob. I don't know anything about chorus pedals, but I'll also agree with the above, try a Phase 90 or Small Stone phaser.

Ok... Another question. What about the Pedal Board itself? Should I build or buy? I like the idea of having a power brick of some sort. So if I am going to spend what that will cost why not spend a bit more on a powered board?

I was thinking maybe something like this one?
I don't plan to do a lot of gigging with it, but I want to have the option. What Brands should I look for/stay away from?
Also.. How big? I don't want some monster on the floor I will never fill, but I also want room to grow I suppose.

The furman pedalboard is pretty nice. I've got an SPB-8c...little more on the pricey side, but its nice to be able to roll it around ;).

For delay, the boss DD-20 works for me. Very versatile, sounds good, and lets you program in four different settings. I only really use two though...A shorter delay for leads, and a longer delay for atmosphere.

As for chorus pedals...I've tried a lot. And I mean it...A LOT. I currently own about 6 different chorus pedals, and my favorite of them all is my Voodoo Lab analog chorus. I friggin love that pedal.

you need to check out the visual sound h2o pedal. that's got some awesome chorus and a superb delay all in one. that thing sounds great.

I'm thinking I'll have to get me one when christmas money rolls around!! It'd be better than my home-made plywood board!! Either size is cheap for the price and the case looks sturdy, so it'd leave you with a budget to buy a brick, or do what I do, which is buy daisy chains and hook them up to a 9V adapter that handles up to 1,000mA.

There are way too many options for overdrive/distortion pedals... try to describe the tone you want to get for them to yourself and then it would be easier to choose.

I like my Ibanez Tone Lok Delay. Sounds amazing but it's a little limited and has some problems with reliability - the on/off light went out the 1st time I've played it... but it sounds less digital then any delay I've heard and the price is great.

I don't like most chorus pedals so I can't make a recommendation here.

You can probably get a small stone phaser and a small stone chorus on here for 50 bucks each, they're great. I was searching the trading post and theres a few people who had them to sell for that, they might even still have 'em. Then I'd go for a line 6 Echo Park. I have one and it is awesome. It has 3 settings for analog, digital, and tape delays. You pick which delay sound you want and then select one out of 11 delays. It even has reverse delay and 'swell' which makes your noises fade in and sound like they are coming from far away, it's almost like cranking a reverb pedal up to an extreme. It also has tap tempo. You could find one for around 100. For overdrive go with a second hand tubescreamer modded by stratdeluxer. I just got one and it's perfect for what I need. That will bring you to around $300.
