Looking to swap all the EMG's in my guitars for new pickups. Looking for suggestions.

I use my od if I'm playing "molten" metal. Which is not too often. But I'll use it on my clean for that slight dirt. The mag. Swap thing sounds neat but I just don't have the time to try all those combinations. Plus taking my strings off so frequently to change pups

I don't use my neck pup that often. If I do it's more for a slow beautifully melodic solo or lead

I have yet to see any example of a commercially available "roughcast" magnet that isn't simply a magnet that hasn't been polished. I'm feeling a bit blunt (and beligerent, despite being sober): roughcast seems like a term derived from ignorance, though I will happily cop to being the one that's ignorant. I'll gladly read a primer on the fine details about the mechanics of casting magnets if anyone wants to indulge me or provide a link. If "roughcast" magnets are cast differently than magnets that are polished, I'd love to know and will gladly STFU on the issue.

Roughcast pretty much does just mean they weren't polished. It's an industry standard term in magnet production. Roughcast is not a term resulting from ignorance. I'm quite aware that it just means unpolished. I don't know why you are upset that there are synonyms out there. If you are shopping for a magnet, you have to search by the terms that are used.

If you think that starting out from the same initial construction means they can't sound different... A difference in charge is enough to make a difference in sound. Changing the contact surface not unexpectedly changes how it sounds. No shortage of ears noticing the difference, and there's a reason why they are standard in many custom and antiqued pickups.

I definitely made no assertion that they sound the same.

I'll discuss what I believe to be an inconsistency in terms of art at another time.

I hope it didn't appear as if I was calling your knowledge into question. That was definitely not my intention, rather I'm seeking clarification and transparency. I hope people reading this who don't already know are now aware: all Alnico magnets, even those that are super shiny, were cast and were once rough. Some magnets are polished smooth and some aren't. Unlike roughcast, rough actually makes sense in attempting to differentiate one category of product from another.
