Looks like Pegasus would be the one

My first post here ...go easy. I’m a real noob when it comes to Seymour Duncan pups - I don’t own any.

I have a Chapman ML2 Pro Modern I am going to be putting a bridge pickup in. All of the Passive Seymour Duncan pickup demos/reviews I find (or the vast majority) on like YouTube and stuff are in Dropped tunings. I usually play in E flat and occasionally drop to C# but just for maybe 2-3 songs. I’ve been on the fence considering Black Winter, Nazgul and Pegasus. I joined this forum to see if I could find some more opinions that would either solidify my choice or make me question it more before spending money.

After reading through here, I think I’m pretty sure I’ll go with the Pegasus.

I wasn’t considering changing the pots or anything but then I saw some posts saying go with a CTS 500k pot and I forget the cap but I will look that up again.

But is swapping them that important or can I get away with just doing the pickup swap?

I should add, I like to get a good balanced crunchy tone. Something high gain and I can roll off my volume to clean up a bit for a metal-blues sound.

Sounds I like are like Metallica, Pantera, Ozzy, are my all time favorites but I also like Andy James, Sons of Texas for newer band references.

Welcome to the forum!

You made the right choice. The Pegasus sounds great in a variety of tunings and gain ranges. It sounds modern, but not super modern metal. I wouldn't change the pots or cap unless there was something wrong with them.

Ok I’ll try just swapping out the pickup and see how that goes. Thanks a lot!

Re: Looks like Pegasus would be the one

So it’s been almost a year. The guitar tech I brought the guitar to said the OEM electronics might not be the best and he didn’t charge me a whole lot to switch them out too. While I was at it, I also picked up an SD Sentient for the Neck pup. I am still playing this guitar pretty regularly. I really love the creamy/crunchy tones and rolling off/on volume and tone knobs give the tone/sound/style so many variations. If anyone stumbles across this and are wondering if they should get these pickups, just do it. You won’t regret it.

Cool that you came back to update this thread.

Thanks for coming back to the thread and giving an update, it's always good to hear how these things work out (or if they don't work out!) The Pegasus/Sentient set is one of my favorites, really glad it worked out for you.

Re: Looks like Pegasus would be the one

Thank you for the review. It is sure to help out others who are looking to make the same decision.
