I dont know about that. I just looked and that thing is $600
Would rather have the Jet city at that price. Its not dark at all.
And whats the deal with 2 preamp tubes in an amp that has 2 channels and an effects loop? The jet city has 5!
Sorry I really didnt mean to sound like this did when I read it. Looks to be a great amp! Just didnt agree with "killing everybody in that price range"
It probably has to do with the preamp being a "hybrid" design.
Ive played the Jet City 20 watter. The older 1 channel version. I definitely preferred the Blackstars, plus I thought the overall quality of construction was better. The BS amps feel more substantial.

cool. I know some people prefer one or the other. Ive not noticed any issues with construction on my Jet City. As long as it is what YOU like thats all that matters!
Not saying the Jet City I looked at was bad construction or anything like that at all. It looked to be built pretty well. I just thought the BS amps were put together like the proverbial tanks. I also prefer the styling and the front control panel design of the BS
Also, I looked up the preamp tubes on the Jet cities. Assuming its the 20w, 2 of the 5 12ax7 tubes are for Reverb. The BS amps have digital reverb, so dont require tubes. So, its a 1 tube difference as far as the preamp is concerned.

Three of the five are for gain and drive. The crunch channel uses two, and the overdrive channel uses three. Then there's one for the effects loop and one for the PI. The head doesn't have reverb. Here's the manufacturer's web page.
In the HT-5, there's only one preamp tube. Most of the drive is generated by diodes, but some of the warmth and drive is the tube. The input is cleanly boosted to be clipped by the diodes and the tube, then it goes through another IC used as the PI and into the power tube.
The Venue series added another tube into the mix, but they're not exactly open about the design. It could be used as a gain stage for the input, or it could be the PI, or it could be another couple of clipping stages. My vote is for the latter.
Tubes: 3x 12AX7 Preamp / 2x 12AX7 Reverb / 2x EL84 Power
Output Power: 20 watts into 16 Ohm or two 8-Ohm speaker outputs
Input Power: Multi-tapped power transformer at 100v/120v/220v/240v and
Power handling: 70 watts RMS
Got it. I was really using the HT-5 as a basis for my analysis of the HT-20. And I thought you were talking about the JCA22H. I still have never heard of a reverb driver using two tubes, but I'm no Mike Soldano.
And for what it's worth, the Blackstar will destroy the Jet City in terms of gain.
