Loomis Blackouts too wide for pickup rings

Hi,

I just bought some Loomis Blackouts (6 string) and I've started to install them in my LTD Eclipse and they are too wide for the pickup rings! The cavity in the pickup ring is 70mm wide and the neck pickup is just under 71mm and the bridge is over 72mm. I've looked online and all pickup rings seem to have a 70mm cavity... is there a special kind of pickup ring I'm supposed to buy for these?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

I have actually never bought these, but are these the rings they came with? Do they come with rings?

Re: Loomis Blackouts too wide for pickup rings

Hi, thanks for the welcome!

These are the rings that were already on the guitar, they never came with any.

Re: Loomis Blackouts too wide for pickup rings

Did you get active or passive mount? I think they're available in both sizes.

Re: Loomis Blackouts too wide for pickup rings

They are passive mount... wasn't sure what the difference was on a 6 string set to be honest...

Re: Loomis Blackouts too wide for pickup rings

No, I think all 6 string versions are passive mounts. So you bought these new?

Re: Loomis Blackouts too wide for pickup rings

Sorry, missed where you said 6 string.

Oh I hadn't, that was an edit after I answered your question as I realised I didn't mention it :) it does say passive mount on the box though and I wasn't sure if there was any difference.

I bought them used on ebay but they had never actually been used and were in the original packaging. I checked the SD website and the dimensions seem correct: Neck - 2.745" (70mm) and bridge - 2.834" (72mm). So they don't fit in to standard pickup rings which are just under 70mm wide. I would assume they are supposed to be direct mount only but they come with screws for pickup rings!

Re: Loomis Blackouts too wide for pickup rings

Hmm, I would think rings would have come with them if they are including screws. You can contact SD directly to see if they come with special rings, or if they have some available. You can also call @ M-F 8:00-5:00 PST

Really? I've never had a set of rings come with pickups but always screws. Thanks, I'll send an email.

Re: Loomis Blackouts too wide for pickup rings

If it was something that needed special rings (like the SLUG does), they might have included them. I am not familiar with how those are packaged, though.

Re: Loomis Blackouts too wide for pickup rings

Yeah, many Duncans come with rings. Trembuckers come with flat black ones.

Re: Loomis Blackouts too wide for pickup rings

Well I emailed SD direct on Sunday and still not had a response... strange that I can't find anyone else that has had this issue!

Re: Loomis Blackouts too wide for pickup rings

They may be running behind. You might try to call them for immediate help.
