Hey guys, im thinking of getting a looper pedal, but im thinking twice about it because i record on my computer and i dont know if ill regret. I just play by my self. Is there any benefits, pros, cons? Is it worth it?

Re: Looper pedal vs computer

There are some cheap loopers
Look on Amazon
Tiny little Asian made rascals

Then there is what I did
Get a Digitech DL8 delay
It has a Looper function among others
If you don't like it just use the great delay

Re: Looper pedal vs computer

It's halpful. It's a lil faster to use and you can also pump loops into your computer recording and then put down legit tracks over that on the computer.

Re: Looper pedal vs computer

It may be possible to load beats onto the loop pedal. But you can for sure plug the beats manually into the looper and then recird them. On my old jam man there is a feature to manage loops (that I can't get to work), so on a new pedal there might be a way to load the beats straight on.

How do u like ezdrummer? I thought about getting that. Instead I'm practicing hard on my electric drum kit. Focusing on that and guitar. (Singing ain't gonna happen lol. [Bass is ez.])

Ok cool.

It has pretty good drum tunings of different styles. Theres the song creator, but i dont like it that much. What i do is open a piano roll on studio one 3, and go from there. It takes time, but its worth it because your making your own drum beat.

Re: Looper pedal vs computer

This all depends on the way you want to loop. Pre-recorded tracks? Verse/Chorus song structures? Total un synched improvisation? There is a good looper for each one. Figure out what features you need, and make a list...then research. But decide how you want to use it, first.

I like Ableton for looping. Incredible control and flexibility for recording.

Re: Looper pedal vs computer

Do you plan on doing any looping live? That might be a consideration, as well. I currently use either a Boomerang III or an Oberheim Digital Echoplex Pro for looping.

Sorry! i know this is old.. havent got a looper yet, been using my daw for it.. i just realize that a pedal will be the best, for practicing and jamming.

im looking into the rc 300 or the smaller brothers plus an fs6 pedal?

now for live looping,

plan A its cheaper: can i use the rc 300 with my computer, connect it to my audio interface to use my vsts , and use my midi keyboard for synths, ambient sounds and drum beats?? the only thing i will need to purchase is a small pa system.

plan B: (if A wont work) the only thing i have is my peavey vypyr vip 3 100w amp.. i will have to purchase, a drum machine or pad, a small workstation( keyboard) and the foot switch for the amp ( the amp has build in effects).. will i need the pa?

let me know guys what plan is better, or you guys have other options. thanks

Re: Looper pedal vs computer

Again, this all depends on how you decide to loop. Are you improvising, or are you building up static song structures? If you are doing song-based looping, one of the Boss units with built-in drum tracks is fun, and you won't need external drum machines. If you want to play along to backing tracks, make sure your looper can sync to your DAW- some can, some can't.

yeap building up songs from the top. but little of both.

Re: Looper pedal vs computer

Well, for pure improvisation, you are gonna need a different looper...one with expression pedal control over loop feedback, and one that lets you re-specify the start and end points after the loop is complete. No current loopers allow this- I use my Oberheim Echoplex for this. For building up a song, most deluxe loopers these days are built on static loop times and sync between loops.

I think the boss rc300 will do the job?

Re: Looper pedal vs computer

Yeah, that looks like a great choice for what you want.
