Loose tuning peg

zero element

I have a schecter omen 6 and the "G" string kept going out of tune very easily, then i decided to change my strings thinking they were getting worn out. While I was changing them I noticed the tuning peg was loose so i tightened it and then proceeded to finish changing my string. I got it all stringed up and stretched and tuned and low and behold the "G" string went out of tune again and continues to keep going out of tune. Any ideas of what i can do or somethng else that may be the problem? Many thanks upon you and your families in advance.

Try tightening the skrew head on top of the peg.

That screw actually only adjusts the amount of torque needed to turn the peg, it has nothing to do with the stability of the actual tuning shaft.

Lots of things could be causing it to slip. Does the guitar have a trem? That alone opens up a huge can of worms. Is the saddle slipping or moving? Did you wind and stretch the string correctly when you put it on? Details, mayne!

Keep us informed.

Re: Loose tuning peg

Before I changed the saddles on LesStrat, I had one that would loosen on its own...the HEIGHT adjuster. The little allen screws would slip for no apparent reason.

Re: Loose tuning peg

I have a fixed bridge and as for stretching I do the pull up on the string and run my hand down the fret board on the string the various bends.
