What about the opposite of the 'tightest hum' thread.....what are the most open sounding humbuckers for low gain work?

Most open sounding? Not quite sure about that, but the Air Zone and Tone Zone are pretty "loose" sounding...

If you don't need to split the coils, a Seth Lover set is great. Or 59's or Alnico Pro II's. They all sound great on clean and midgain......not to mention highgain.

Well... the CC has a very loose sound, but not "open". The JB sounds very open, but tight. IMO.
So, maybe a CC\JB hybrid?

The Dimarzio Airbuckers are loose and open, but sometimes to the point of having an ambiguous pick attack. But I would say the Air Zone for higher gain work, and the Air Classic & Virtual PAF for lower gain tones. From Duncan I would definitely include the Seth Lovers on the low end and the CC on the high end if you need to split.
The Airbuckers all have a different feel. Some people think it precisely fits the description of open and airy, while others think it feels distant and less responsive to pick attack. So you have to play some before you know if you are in the Duncan or Dimarzio camp for that kind of sound. I have both. Thats a lot easier than deciding.

I don't know about you dude but to me, tight is the opposite of open. Loose is just another way of saying it. Maybe you mean thick...? But again, some ultra tight pickup aren't THAT thick sounding compared to say a tone zone, which is VERY loose (and open
) but also pretty thick sounding.
EDIT: Tightness depends on a lot of things. Dave Mustaine and the Maiden guys make a JB sound pretty tight for instance. I'm just talking in general of course.
