Los Angeles Amp Show. Don't fail Angelinos!

Re: Los Angeles Amp Show. Don't fail Angelinos!

Man! Guitars and cool and pedals are great too but there is something about amps that just gets me all excited.

I wish I could go...

Re: Los Angeles Amp Show. Don't fail Angelinos!

The best thing about it is all the best amps are in every room of a hotel, so you can go room to room and have a perfect playing field for comparison. In one day, you'll hear 200 amps, and have a good idea of the 5 you wish you owned.

The lame part is not being rich, walking in there with cash, and walking out with those 5! That show haunts me year after year, and the thing that makes it worse is the raffle at the end, where you get to see non players, girlfriends, and dorks winning all the raffle prizes! Dammit!!!! But last year I won a $15 Marshall tuner at least. I felt like my admission fee was reimbursed.

Do the vendors have discounted prices on amps?

They usually don't want to take anything home, so they're willing to deal...usually at cost. The buyer gets to pick up the amp at the end of Sunday's show.

But there's lots of accessories, tubes, pickups, decals, and catalogs too. I usually come home with a bag of goodies. Bugera gave me a free 12AX7 last year too....I almost forgot about that.

You lucky devil, I'd love to go to an amp show like that. I'd really want to try all the '65 amps, Bogner and those amps with the headboxes that look like they've been made from random pieces of nice timber??? Can't remember the name. Have a great time all you guys who get the chance.

I will definitely try to co-ordinate my next visit to LA with the Amp Show. That sounds awesome.

Someone take a buncha pics for me!

Bump.

So who's going and what day/time are you going to be there? I'm thinking I might hit it up Sunday morning/afternoon.

Re: Los Angeles Amp Show. Don't fail Angelinos!

How does it compare with NAMM?
Totally different. The LA and NY Amp Shows feature boutique builders & small attendance.

Edit: From their web site
Since it’s inception in 2005, The AMP SHOW ‘s winning format of private demo rooms has provided the ideal solution to the problem all manufacturers have faced while demonstrating musical products –oppressive sound regulation in an open hall environment. It is now possible to evaluate amplifiers, effects, and instruments at real world levels. At the AMP SHOW, it is up to each room to regulate volume as they please, with no limitations imposed by show or venue staff..

Perhaps the most overlooked aspect of the AMP SHOW’S formula for success, is the price the public pays to enter. A $20.00 fee, ensures exhibitors that the majority of attendees are serious about their time spent at the show and are more likely to have the funds available to indulge prospective equipment purchases. Furthermore, this pre-screening/filtering process, is designed to limit traffic flow to a manageable level, thus insuring each individual can count on quality time with product specialists while gathering valuable information. A certain amount of exclusivity insures a more productive, pleasurable experience for attendee and exhibitor alike.

GJ, if EAST Amplification is going to be there, you should check 'em out! As well as the Sommatone Slick 18.
