Lots of 5150 Combos Available Locally

There are 7 or 8 combos available in the local area and most are in good condition; a few a are a bit ratty. I know they are heavy as hell and cost a lot to ship. With a bit of work the rythym channel can be made pretty good and with the right tube swaps and bias mod this amp can be great.

Are these worth the trouble? I would not mind getting the head, but I do not need 120 watts. So here we are considering the 60 watt combo.

I had one a few years back. Great hard rock/metal amp , the cleans were decent . I remember using the rythmn channel the most as the lead channel was pretty noisey. At 60 watts it`s loud as sin and be prepared to lug around a 90lbs. monster.

one thing to consider is the one trick pony ...maybe suits one band but then move to a style & the amp gets ditched for a bit?

Just get the head and run it at 60 watts. The difference is only headroom, and it's not by that much. My 50W Single Rectifier is louder than my 120W 5150 was.

Great extreme metal amps, just a total one trick pony, and I find them useless without an OD infront.

Yeah I knew that you used to do that DeadSkin. Plus it`s a lot easier to lug around a head and cab sepearatly. I just couldn`t get over how heavy(as in weight)that the combo was.
