Louis Electric?

Re: Louis Electric?

I have worked on a few of his "K" Series.
Very well made.
Your "typical" boutique guitar amp.
Which one do you have.?

I don't own one. I've only seen a video or two and was thinking that for the same money his Columbia Reverb (based on an AA1164 circuit) might suit me better than a Magnatone Twilighter which has really sparked my interest. I will have an opportunity to try the Magnatone, but probably won't get the chance on the "Princetone".

I really know very little about amps/cicuits and so on. I depend on demos and whatever comparisons I can make based upon my elementary reading of specifications.

Ah.....I see.
What you are going through is common...unfortunately.
These things are not available at Walmart...so you often have to buy on faith, and doing what you are doing now.
Maybe TO (above) can give you some info on what he has played.....
AA1164, is that the Prince Rev.?
What is the price like between the Louis and the Maggie.?

Yes. Early '60s Pre-CBS Prineton Reverb that includes tremolo. I can't discern from the advertising copy whether it is also available with 6L6 power or whether the 6V6s can simply be replaced with the 6L6s. Also, (since I can't actually read a schematic) I don't know whether the trem is the bias vary type which I prefer. I doubt it, but I don't know.

They are both right at $2,400. The prices are not particularly out of line for high quality, boutique amps, but it is more than I care to spend for an opportunity to be disappointed. The Louis electric has a mid control which the original AA1164 circuit lacked, and the Mangatone, in addition to its tremolo, features a lush, pitch shifting vibrato. I suspect that both amps are incredible in their own ways.
