Re: Love pedalboardplanner.com
I think the # of pedals is directly influenced by the type of music you are playing. My music is kinda varied.
I need a minimum of 2 different flavor OD pedals & love 3.
1. Very light breakup for rhythm & also smooth violin like lead tones when switching to the neck pup.
2. Something with a little more hair and top end that is still light and musical.
3. This is a luxury and not always needed...but some applications require some extra crunch and a more cutting tone. Not a neccesity, because the other 2 pedals could be dialed in to get me there, but i don't do a lot of adjusting on my ODs. I like to get them to their sweet spots and leave them alone!
4. Tuner pedal. Absolute must have. No explanation needed.
5. Volume Pedal. I honestly don't know how i made it this long without using one. Regardless of doing ambient swells and etc, it's just a great piece of gear!
6. Speaking of ambient swells, I use my delay to that effect. Which brings me to another problem. I need another delay or 2...not only to add layers, but to set differently. I mean sure, i could bend down and dial all the knobs back and switch settings, but i would love to just tap on another delay set for dotted 8th or just a light delay for thickness. I usually don't have the time to adjust a pedal on the fly. It's important to keep things flowing and as seamless as possible.
7. Chorus adds flavor to my cleans and the ambient swells.
8. Reverb is another layer i want to add to my swells. My amp has built in reverb but again, it's one flavor. I'd like to give the Hall of Fame a go here.
9. I'd also like to add an EP Booster to give my whole sound a some more oomph and jangle.
10. A wah could be cool, but a vibe would do fine. Neither of those aren't at the top of my list to add though.
11. I'd also love to add an octave pedal. Would work great with ambiance and lead lines with my ebow.
12. My comp is an awesome pedal. Great for smoothing out lead tones and ambient stuff. Also good for cleaning up light rhythm stuff.
