Love these little doodadz

Re: Love these little doodadz

I remember watching a clip of Sum 41 in the studio and they were using strips of masking tape to the same effect.

I'm with TGWIF on this one, though. I can see how they would be pretty handy if you're trying to get something down quickly in a studio and you're just not in the zone. Or if you're doing some complicated tapping passages, or pull-offs to open strings that are tricky to keep totally silent, however.

I feel the same way I do about these as I do Capos. They are both tools but if I don't have to use em I won't. Plus I don't like the look of extra stuff on my guitar. In this case I say a lot of people just need better muting technique like you said.

masking tape, tissue paper, scrunchies, soft foam, there's almost no end to the number of simple, cheap household things you can use for exactly the same effect

Exactly the reason why I got them. I don't plan on using them during shows. And they're not THAT expensive. C'mon now.

These are in front of the nut , presumably for active damping (and no playing on the first few frets), not just killing behind-the-nut noise.

Just clarifying in case anyone was confused as I was initially.

I guess fret hand muting techniques are a thing of the past now huh??

Oh STFU

And yeah...

I guess I'm too crappy of a player to have to use one of those.

Re: Love these little doodadz

The 1st 2 sentences of this thread got my hopes up as a new way of killing unwanted noise (as in hum). Then I saw the pic... :grumble:

Seriously, I might give one a whirl as I've been dabbling with playing some slide. I don't want to mess with open tuning nor do I want to raise my action... yet.

Re: Love these little doodadz

Dang!! And to think all these years I've been doing it with my hands...silly me.
