Love those Greenbacks!

Stevo

Tonus Maximus Pacificas
I just jammed through the speakers in my 1960a cab separately: Greenback, G12H30 and 50w Ceramic Blue Dog. Granted, all nice speakers, but the Greenbacks just have that tone, made for a Marshall :13:

They don't seem to be the most efficient speakers in the world, but they are fat, midrangy but balanced, and rude when they need to be.. love em :laugh2:

I have also had v30, Weber Silver Bell, GT12T-75, JBL d120f (which is great for Fender tone) and a few more that I can't remember at the moment.

They sound better with mileage.

Greenbacks bruthas.. Greenbacks :laugh2:

Re: Love those Greenbacks!

Greenbacks are killer speakers for sure...one of my fav 12's but for some reason a lot of guys don't like them! I assume it's beacuse of the lower wattage handling and the fact thet under today's "high gain" they don't hold it together as well as some other speakers.

Let me ask, your Weber Silver, was it the Alnico version and what did you think of it???

Re: Love those Greenbacks!

I love the sound of Greenbacks. Once I went into Guitar Center and tried out the Marshall DSL50, and when I first tried it, it was on a standard 1960a with G1275s. I go in there two weeks later, and it sounds so much better to me (I used the same guitars as well). I couldn't figure it out until I looked at the cab...1960AX cab with Greenbacks! Plus, they're THE classic rock and British blues-rock speaker along with the Alnico Blues and G12H.

It was the ceramic version and it sounded too much like a g12t-75 for me. Not dissing the quality, but I like that British midrangy sound.

My GBs are British, but new 25w versions. I used to have some old greenbacks from the 70s, but I sold them before I got in to Marshalls.. darn!

I've never used 'em, but since they have lots of mids, I'm going to guess they are good in your closed cab where the lows are boosted.

I have a couple "made in England" GBs. They were in my Victoria Double Deluxe, but I replaced them with Jensen P12Qs.

Re: Love those Greenbacks!

Greenbacks are the essential rock and roll speaker and definitely the best sounding speakers I've ever heard with a Marshall. They just fit perfectly! I like other speakers that have better power handling (holds together at higher volumes), but Greenbacks are a joy to play through. I definitely like them more than the Weber equivalents.

Re: Love those Greenbacks!

Hey Stevo, after reading yours and Jumpmarine's endorsement of the GB+G12H30 paired together I stuck a set in my 2x12 and they sound great!

Re: Love those Greenbacks!

The thing I like about Greenbacks is the early breakup due to thier low power handeling. That breakup is definatley a part of the tone.

Question: are there any GB clones out there that have the same 25 watt rating as the originals do? Seems like the "clones" I've seen are all around 60/70 watts.

Also, has anybody had a chance to compare the Chinese made GB's to the ones made in the U.K?

Nice! I'm glad you like the combo. The greenback has the great mids and the g12h gives a little more punch.

Cool, probably more of an all-round tone? How do those compare to the c12n? Please pardon me if I've asked you this question before. :6:

I don't really know the difference. I just went for the British versions. They are probably pretty similar.
